Research Papers vs. Projects: Applying for U.S. Masters Programs

In summary, a research paper is an academic document that presents original research and analysis on a particular topic, while a project is a practical application of knowledge and skills to solve a problem or create something new. The preferred type of submission for U.S. masters programs varies depending on the specific program and its requirements. Each program may also have its own formatting guidelines for research papers and projects, which should be carefully reviewed and followed. It is possible to submit the same research paper or project to multiple programs, but it is important to ensure that it meets the specific requirements of each program. Ultimately, the type of submission that will impress admissions committees for U.S. masters programs depends on the quality and relevance of the submission.

~~~~Guidance needed!~~~~
When someone applies for masters to any U.S. University, does it matters if he/she has written research paper(s) ? Does it makes a difference if he/she had worked on some ( or many ) technical projects which involved sort of research ? or both of them? Or just one of them?
Anyone?
