In summary, the article explores the question of whether a self-taught tinker can gain a better understanding of chemistry through participating in online discussions and communities. It discusses the benefits and limitations of this approach and provides insight from experts in the field. Ultimately, it suggests that while self-teaching can be a valuable supplement to traditional education, it may not be enough on its own to fully grasp the complexities of chemistry. Joining discussions and seeking guidance from experienced chemists may be a more effective way to gain clarity and deepen one's understanding of the subject.
