Fixing Hard Drive Issue for P4, RAM, Mobo & Power Supply

In summary, the speaker received new hardware including a p4 3.0 gig processor, 1 gig of Corsair RAM, a new motherboard, and a new power supply. They transferred their video card, CD-drive, and hard drive from their old computer and correctly plugged everything in. However, upon booting from the hard drive, a black screen followed by a blue error screen appears and the computer restarts. The speaker believes this is due to too much new hardware and wonders if reformatting the hard drive is necessary. Someone suggests reinstalling Windows without reformatting, but the final decision is up to the speaker.

Ok here's the deal:

I received a p4 3.0 gig, 1 gig corsair ram, a new mobo, and a new power supply. I took my video card out of my old comp, along with my cd-drive and harddrive. I plugged everything in correctly, but, once my computer boots from the harddrive, a black screen comes up, then a few seconds later, a blue error screen flashes for a split second, then the computer restarts. I personally think that it is too much new hardware to use the same harddrive, without reformating it.

If anyone knows why this is happening, or if I indeed do need to reformat before i can use the harddrive, please let me know. Thanks :)

You don't have to reformat your hard drive, but you do need to reinstall windows. Whenever I reinstall an OS, I always format, but that is up to you.

Based on the information provided, it seems like the issue could be related to the compatibility of the hardware components. It is possible that the hard drive was not properly formatted to work with the new motherboard and other hardware. I would recommend trying to reformat the hard drive and reinstalling the operating system to see if that resolves the issue. If the problem persists, it may be necessary to troubleshoot each component individually to determine the root cause of the issue. Additionally, make sure all connections are secure and the BIOS settings are properly configured. If you are unsure how to do this, it may be helpful to consult a professional or refer to the user manuals for each component.
