Is the Earth's Distance from the Sun Affecting Global Warming?

In summary, the Earth's distance from the Sun plays a minimal role in global warming. The main cause of global warming is the increase in greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide, in the Earth's atmosphere. These gases trap heat and lead to a rise in global temperatures. While the Earth's distance from the Sun does affect climate patterns, it is not a significant factor in the current global warming trend. Human activities, such as burning fossil fuels, are the primary driver of global warming.

How did you find PF?
Google search for mean distance of Earth from Sun.
Have seen at least two independent clips on Youtube describing Solar distance from Earth being at a maximum in the context of the larger cosmic picture. Would like to explore this theme in the context of mitigating Global Warming.

Welcome to the PF, Peter.

Please keep in mind that YouTube videos by themselves are not considered valid references for starting technical discussions at the PF. Please be sure to do enough searching so that you can find some valid scientific references that you can post links to when starting a discussion about your questions in our technical forums. Such a question would probably fit in our Classical Physics or Astrophysics forum, depending on the exact questions.

As long as you post good links and ask reasonable questions (and are open to listening to the answers), you will do well here. Enjoy!

Hi berkeman
Thank you for pointing this out. Much appreciated. Don't know why I didn't consider this initially.
Cheers
