1. Who was Albert Einstein?

Albert Einstein was a German-born theoretical physicist, widely recognized as one of the greatest physicists of all time. He developed the theory of relativity, one of the two pillars of modern physics (alongside quantum mechanics). His work is known for its influence on the philosophy of science.

2. What is Einstein’s most famous equation?

Einstein’s most famous equation is E=mc², which is known as the mass-energy equivalence formula. It states that energy (E) is equal to mass (m) times the speed of light (c) squared. This equation has been pivotal in the development of nuclear energy and understanding the energy produced by the sun and other stars.

3. What is the Theory of Relativity?

The Theory of Relativity is a fundamental theory in physics developed by Albert Einstein, which consists of two parts: Special Relativity and General Relativity. Special Relativity introduced the idea that the laws of physics are the same for all non-accelerating observers and that the speed of light within a vacuum is the same no matter the speed at which an observer travels. General Relativity extended this to include gravity as a property of the warping of space and time.

4. Did Einstein receive a Nobel Prize?

Yes, Albert Einstein received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1921. However, it was not for his theory of relativity but for his explanation of the photoelectric effect, which was pivotal in establishing quantum theory.

5. What impact did Einstein have on the development of the atomic bomb?

While Einstein himself did not directly participate in the development of the atomic bomb, his equation E=mc² laid the theoretical foundation for nuclear energy and the bomb’s development. Additionally, his signing of a letter to President Franklin Roosevelt in 1939 helped initiate the U.S. efforts to build an atomic bomb.

6. How did Einstein’s views change the world of physics?

Einstein’s theories, including relativity and his contributions to quantum mechanics, significantly changed our understanding of fundamental aspects of the universe, such as time, space, matter, energy, and gravity. His work led to the development of new fields of physics and opened the door to modern technologies such as GPS navigation, which relies on understanding time dilation, a concept from his theory of relativity.

“9! Does he ever give a reason to why he was a vegan? I thought that was really interesting”
He wasn’t a vegan, he was vegetarian, and only for the last year of his life, although he approved of vegetarianism before that.

“I thought I knew 4 answers and really only knew 3. I had no answer to the other 9. Surprising as I’ve read so much of Einstein’s scientific role, but picked up so little in personal details.”
But at least you could even spit up 3-4 things correctly about him. I can reach up to 2 only.

    “7 Satisfactory

    But could he play music?”

“One co-worker commented she had just heard me mention the Einstein presidency offer for the third time lol I was telling everyone…most over 55/60 yrs already knew.

Wonder if it was publicized at the time or soon after….was it a “stunt”? Not sure why they would think he would accept. Perhaps it was offered as an honor.”
It was very serious, and they persisted in the offer. Note that in Israel, president is mostly a symbolic post (and this was a lobbying point – he wouldn’t have to do much). Yet, in the early days of Israel, anything to add to prestige was highly desired. (Prime Minister is the post with power).

“No one knows anything about Dirac.”
I do! :woot: And I read a great article about him a while ago… I will see if I can find it again, IBB…
Edit: It wasn’t this article I read, but it is a similar one, a review of the book “The Strangest Man”: link.

  7. aleazk says:

I got 10/12. My mistakes were in the “Hall of Fame in 2015” and “Einstein became an American citizen in”. For a moment I had the correct option in the American citizen question but changed it in the last moment! :frown:

  8. BiGyElLoWhAt says:

4/12 oh yea. That’s pro baseball status right there. Only one was a guess, although I didn’t know he was in the mustache hall of fame, but what else was it gonna be? I mean, look at that mustache.

  9. epenguin says:

I got 8/12, 'competent'. However many of the questions are silly or secondary and not really about him, so only one "essential" was wrong – I did not know he was vegetarian. It is somewhat in character, but I thought as absolute principle it would have been too dogmatic for him.

Got 6 of 12, 1st time. After logging in, and attempting to exactly recreate the original errors for archive, I accidentally picked the correct year (1921) that he got his Nobel Prize and got 7 right. I usually remember numbers easier than names, but I had picked 1919. I wonder after initially waiting all those years, if he might have forgotten exactly which year himself… by the time he was my present age. I’ve had a heck of a time with precise dates on resumes. Wes…

  12. gmax137 says:

I wasn’t happy with the answer to the vegetarian question (remembering a story about him “eating sausages”) but on further reflection, I guess a lot of vegetarians are only so “later in life.”
