A year is the orbital period of a planetary body, for example, the Earth, moving in its orbit around the Sun. Due to the Earth's axial tilt, the course of a year sees the passing of the seasons, marked by change in weather, the hours of daylight, and, consequently, vegetation and soil fertility. In temperate and subpolar regions around the planet, four seasons are generally recognized: spring, summer, autumn and winter. In tropical and subtropical regions, several geographical sectors do not present defined seasons; but in the seasonal tropics, the annual wet and dry seasons are recognized and tracked.
A calendar year is an approximation of the number of days of the Earth's orbital period, as counted in a given calendar. The Gregorian calendar, or modern calendar, presents its calendar year to be either a common year of 365 days or a leap year of 366 days, as do the Julian calendars; see below. For the Gregorian calendar, the average length of the calendar year (the mean year) across the complete leap cycle of 400 years is 365.2425 days. The ISO standard ISO 80000-3, Annex C, supports the symbol a (for Latin annus) to represent a year of either 365 or 366 days. In English, the abbreviations y and yr are commonly used.
In astronomy, the Julian year is a unit of time; it is defined as 365.25 days of exactly 86,400 seconds (SI base unit), totalling exactly 31,557,600 seconds in the Julian astronomical year. The word year is also used for periods loosely associated with, but not identical to, the calendar or astronomical year, such as the seasonal year, the fiscal year, the academic year, etc. Similarly, year can mean the orbital period of any planet; for example, a Martian year and a Venusian year are examples of the time a planet takes to transit one complete orbit. The term can also be used in reference to any long period or cycle, such as the Great Year.
Just wondering if anyone can recommend a good linear algebra book for a second year course. In my first semester I learned up to Gram Schmidt process..EigenValues/Vectors etc. I don't care too much about how "easy" the book is to read. A book heavy in theory will do nicely if that's what you...
I am a first year community college student. I plan on transferring to North Carolin A&T State University, and majoring in mechanical engineering. I am having trouble getting any meaningful advice. If anyone can offer any advice it would be greatly appreciated.
hello all, I'm a physics major who's finishing up my second year as a physics major. I'm finishing up the 3 introductory physics course sequence and also the 4-semesters of calculus courses.

I'm pretty confused at the moment. I am doing great in my first year of calc-based physics, and when I read the text (I finished it before I even took the course lol), it was hard, but I plowed my way through and in the end looking back I thoroughly enjoyed it. That's also why I'm probably...

I will be entering my senior year next year, and I am pretty determined I would like to pursue a career in sciences, which field exactly I still am undecided.

Hi all,
What is your opinion, is it smarter to continue with a MSc immediately after the BSc or working for one year to gain industry experience? By work, I mean work closely related to the field of the BSc.

This is incredible. This archaeological find predates Stonehenge and the Great pyramids by 6,000 years and makes Stonhenge look like rubble in comparison to this 12,000 year old find. It's before stoneage man had agriculture, before the wheel, a time of hunter gatherers. This site brings up...
Im currently 15 years old and in grade 9, but I feel as though the math and science program at my school is moving terribly slow for my liking. What are some good physics textbooks for self-tutoring? And most importantly, what are some good calculus textbooks for self-tutoring?
thanks!

I've made many threads on these boards over the past year about college and very soon, I will have to make a final decision. I wanted to apply to the USA but for a few reasons, wasn't able to do my SATs in time. I then decided to do a gap year and focus on a few other activities (mostly...
I've heard that using Lagrangians to solve mechanics problems is much more efficient and easier than using Newton's laws. In your opinion, is it too early for a student to learn lagrangians for a first year due to a lack of exposure of the mathematics required?
