In summary, the conversation discusses the use of a camera and recorder to monitor thefts in front of one's house. It is suggested to purchase an inexpensive camera with motion detection capabilities and the ability to increase resolution during motion. The use of motion activated cameras commonly used by hunters is also mentioned as a possible solution.

Hello,
I used to watch a youtube's clip of tracking human motion long ago. I wonder if I do something similar, how "big" is the object sensor I should buy ? I'd like to monitor thefts if any in front of my house, I need details before purchasing any, as I'm afraid I'll be ripped off. Thank you.
Thanks Youtube, they offer me so many open chances for more neat ideas. Love this site too, all excelent people.

Welcome to the PF.

Just get an inexpensive camera and recorder. You can also get them where they detect motion, and increase the resolution of the stored images when there is motion (to save on storage size when nothing is going on).

Hunters use motion activated cameras to help scout locations - you can get these many outdoors-type stores that carry hunting/fishing supplies. They should do the trick.

FAQ: Choosing an Effective Object Sensor for Home Security: Tips and Recommendations

What is an object sensor and how does it work?

An object sensor is a device that uses various technologies, such as light, sound, or motion, to detect the presence of an object in its surroundings. It works by emitting a signal and then measuring the reflection or changes in the signal when an object enters its detection zone. This change triggers an alarm or notification, alerting the homeowner of potential intruders.

What are the different types of object sensors available for home security?

There are several types of object sensors available, including infrared (IR) sensors, ultrasonic sensors, microwave sensors, and photoelectric sensors. Each type has its own advantages and limitations, so it's essential to consider your specific needs and the layout of your home when choosing an object sensor.

What factors should I consider when choosing an object sensor for my home security system?

When choosing an object sensor, consider the range, detection angle, sensitivity, and response time of the sensor. You should also think about the layout of your home and the potential sources of false alarms, such as pets or moving objects outside. Additionally, consider the power source, installation requirements, and compatibility with your home security system.

Are there any additional features or technologies I should look for in an effective object sensor?

Some object sensors come with additional features, such as the ability to differentiate between humans and animals or the option to adjust the sensitivity level. You may also want to consider object sensors with wireless capabilities, allowing for remote monitoring and control.

How can I ensure the effectiveness and reliability of my chosen object sensor?

To ensure the effectiveness and reliability of your chosen object sensor, it's crucial to follow the manufacturer's instructions for installation and maintenance. Regularly test the sensor and replace batteries or parts as needed. It's also essential to choose a reputable brand and read reviews from other homeowners to gauge the product's reliability and performance.
