In summary, the CNOT gate is a physical gate that is used in quantum computing to perform operations on qubits. It is one of the fundamental gates used in algorithms for tasks such as error correction, entanglement, and quantum teleportation. The gate acts on two qubits, a control qubit and a target qubit, and can exist in multiple states simultaneously. It has been experimentally demonstrated in various quantum computing systems and is important for the development of quantum computing as it enables the manipulation and control of qubits.

Could somebody tell me whether or not a CNOT gate has actually been built or not?

Thanks,

lorka

Cnot

I believe there are several CNOT physical realisation up to today. One of them:

Yes, Controlled-NOT gates have been made, even teleported, and several quantum circuits implementing them studied. Here's one proposed quantum circuit, a variation of the "quantum multiplexor circuit", using CNOT gates

Another quantum circuit using CNOT gates is the Brassard teleportation circuit

The Japanese invented them.

FAQ: CNOT gate has actually been built or not?

Is the CNOT gate a physical or theoretical concept?

The CNOT (controlled-not) gate is a physical gate that can be built and used in quantum computing systems. It is not a theoretical concept, but rather a tangible tool for performing operations on qubits.

What is the purpose of the CNOT gate in quantum computing?

The CNOT gate is one of the fundamental gates used in quantum computing to perform logical operations on qubits. It is commonly used in algorithms for tasks such as error correction, entanglement, and quantum teleportation.

How does the CNOT gate work?

The CNOT gate acts on two qubits, a control qubit and a target qubit. If the control qubit is in the state |0>, the target qubit remains unchanged. But if the control qubit is in the state |1>, the target qubit is flipped (i.e. from |0> to |1> or from |1> to |0>). This behavior is similar to a classical logic gate, but in quantum computing, the qubits can exist in multiple states simultaneously.

Has the CNOT gate been experimentally demonstrated?

Yes, the CNOT gate has been experimentally demonstrated in various quantum computing systems, including trapped ions and superconducting qubits. Researchers continue to improve the performance and reliability of this gate in different architectures.

Why is the development of the CNOT gate important for quantum computing?

The CNOT gate is a crucial component in the development of quantum computing because it enables the manipulation and control of qubits, which are the building blocks of quantum information. It is essential for performing complex quantum operations and is a necessary step in building more powerful quantum computers.
