    Difference
In summary, amphetamine and methamphetamine are similar drugs that have similar physical and psychological effects. The main difference between the two is a methyl group on the amine moiety. They also work similarly in terms of CNS stimulation and modulation of neurotransmitters. Differences in subjective experiences may vary, but crystal meth has been known to cause harsher effects such as psychoses in addicts. The consumption of both drugs is dependent on sociopolitical, geographic, and economic factors.

Different in what sense? Whether or not you have heard of abuse depends on what country you live in and what your social circle is. Also the definition of "abuse", recreational use of amphetamine is far more common in the United Kingdom (MDMA is very popular whereas crystal meth is more or less unheard of).

MDMA is a methamphetamine just like crystal meth. The difference between an amphetamine and a methamphetamine is a methyl group on the amine moiety.

As far as the difference in effects go, they work very similarly (CNS stimulation, euphoria, modulation of neurotransmitters etc). They are also metabolized in very similar ways IE CYP450 enzymes, oxidations, conjugation to glucoronides etc.

As far as the subjective experiences go, I'm not really sure. I have heard that crystal meth is very harsh causing psychoses and such in addicts.

so is the consumption of both drugs pretty much the same as a whole? and if one dominates, is it due to sociopolitical, geographic, or economic factors or is there any other reason?

FAQ: Difference Between Amphetamine & Methamphetamine: Effects Explained

What is the difference between amphetamine and methamphetamine?

Amphetamine and methamphetamine are both stimulant drugs that affect the central nervous system. The main difference between the two is their chemical structure, with methamphetamine being a more potent and longer-lasting version of amphetamine. This means that methamphetamine has a stronger effect on the brain and body than amphetamine.

What are the effects of amphetamine and methamphetamine on the body?

The effects of amphetamine and methamphetamine on the body are similar, as they both increase energy, alertness, and focus. However, methamphetamine has a stronger effect and can also cause more severe side effects such as increased heart rate and blood pressure, loss of appetite, and insomnia. Long-term use of both drugs can lead to addiction and other health problems.

How do amphetamine and methamphetamine affect the brain?

Both amphetamine and methamphetamine increase the levels of dopamine and norepinephrine in the brain, which are neurotransmitters responsible for pleasure, motivation, and alertness. However, methamphetamine has a stronger effect and can cause a more intense release of these neurotransmitters, leading to a more powerful and addictive high.

Can amphetamine and methamphetamine be used for medical purposes?

Yes, both drugs have been used for medical purposes, such as treating attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and narcolepsy. However, due to their potential for abuse and addiction, they are closely monitored and only prescribed in specific cases where other treatments have not been effective.

What are the risks of using amphetamine and methamphetamine?

The risks of using amphetamine and methamphetamine include addiction, cardiovascular problems, respiratory issues, and mental health problems such as anxiety and psychosis. These drugs can also lead to risky behaviors and accidents due to their effects on the brain and body. It is important to use these drugs only as prescribed and under medical supervision to minimize these risks.
