Do You Have 4 Eyes? Poll on PF Members

  • Thread starter AlbertEinstein
  • Start date
In summary, most people have glasses because they need them for reading, driving, or for correcting astigmatism. However, there are a few people who do not need glasses.

Do u wear spectacles?

Do you have four eyes:rolleyes: I meant do you wear spectacles:bugeye: .I think almost half of the PF members wear spectacles after all each of them are either mathematicians or scientists and spectacles are their trademark.

Well here's a small poll, just to know how many of you are 4-eyed or not? :)

And yes don't forget to mention you power.
All sort of spectacles are considered, unless they do not have power.

Starting off, I am the first 4-eyed with power -6 D.

1] Your poll will show biased results - since your subject header calls to bespectacled members only.

2] Since I haven't the faintest idea what a tubelight is, I guess I'm not one.

Do reading glasses count? My vision was 20/20 until I was 47 years old.

  • #5
I corrected the header and the post. Hope it's fine.

Yeeeeah... that'll draw them in by the score...

How about being a little more informative?

What about, "How is your eyesight?"

  • #7
Hey but the title in the general discussion shows the older title .How do I correct it?

I wear eyeglasses, but i am going to get the laser fix on Dec.

I started wearing glasses about a year ago. I was getting terrible eye strain by the end of the day. I had a comprehensive eye test which revealed that my eyes had finally gotten to the point where it requires considerable effort to focus on things nearby, or small print. So in order to read fine print or things in the range of 24 inches (60 cm) or closer, I need to use reading glasses.

Done. Hey, it's fun being a Mentor!

I wear +2 reading glasses in order to keep my far vision close to 20/20. All that close work over the years would have ruined my unaided far vision unless I used reading glasses. I had to start wearing them near the end of my undergrad.

Funny you should ask. Two weeks ago today I had a "macular event." The center ofvision in my right eye suddenly became dim as though I had spent an hour looking at the sun. The annoying spot has faded over two weeks, but my vision in the center of my right eye is now a lot blurrier.

I was panicked after the second day when the spot was still growing (going blind does not sound like fun), but then the condition improved. I see the retina specialist tomorrow. So, new specs for me.

You guys (that wear glasses) are a bunch of nerds!11111111

Ha! You nerds are so lame.

I do not wear glasses, but I do wear contacts. Blue ones too, they make my eyes pretty haha. Unfortunately I was stabbed in the left eye with an exacto knife when I was about 2.5 years old, I am extremely lucky to not be completely blind in that eye. Now, after four surgeries, I have an artificial lens in my eye, and actually my sight has been slightly improving over the past few years..YAY

Me too. I think it makes them look smart too.

No corrective lenses of any kind here. Apparently sitting too close to the TV and reading in dim light aren't as bad as my mom prophesied.

i prefer girls with glasses..

dunno why.. mystery :P

I don't wear glasses all the time. I just need them to drive at night or if I read late at night. My Rx is -0.75+0.50x63 OD, and -0.75+1.00x132 OS so the spherical equivalent is negligible.

You don't look a day over 70.

I wear glasses -1.5, -1.75 and have progressive lenses to provide some compensation for my presbyopia. Also have slight (uncorrected) astigmatism. I used to work as an optician for my ophthalmologist, so after he refracts me, he asks ME how I want my prescription adjusted, and I tell him. Generally if the glasses are going to be used for motorcycling, I order a quarter-diopter of extra correction and if the glasses are going to be for everyday use, I keep the main prescription as-is and usually order a half-diopter increase in the reading part of the lens because my eyes get tired, especially late in the day. For those of you with only presbyopia, don't bother getting glasses through your eye doctor (although you should still get checked every year or two) - buy several sets of cheap reading glasses at a discount drug store or big-box store. Get at least a couple of different strengths, because you will prefer one while reading, one while doing hobbies, and maybe a really strong set for reading extra-fine print, removing splinters, etc.

I think I'm -7.00 in each eye, with some astigmatism.

As a corollary, lots of women have looked better through the bottom of a beer glass.

I guess you can call me eight-eyes, since mine are trifocals. I have no idea what the perscription is, but they're useless for close-up even with the reading lens (I have to take them off to read).
I'm going to get the varichrome contacts if they're available in my area. Can't wear regular contacts because I'm severely photophobic.

  • #28
My contact prescription is -6.00 left eye and -5.00 for the right eye. Put it this way, if I don't have my contacts in or glasses on I wouldn't be able the big Physics Forums title at the top if I were sitting in my chair. I would have to probably be about 6 inches away from the screen to read it.

What? Did you say something?

SPEAK UP A LITTLE! MY EYES DON'T HEAR AS WELL AS THEY USED TO!

Or, as a batter complained after umpire Ron Luciano called a Nolan Ryan fastball a strike, "Are you sure you saw that pitch?"

"Are you serious!?"

"I thought so. Neither did I, but it sounded a little high."

I wear glasses. Huge ones. I've got 1.9-index glass lenses... and I'm at -11.25 on the left eye, and -10.75 on the right one. For the left eye, there's -3 for astigmatism as well, since I have a scar in the middle of my cornea, right through the optical center... can you tell my vision sucks without glasses?

I'm just 17. but I've begun this at age 5, and went down one whole point per year, until lately. I've been stable for a year now.

Used to wear contacts, but the incident implying the scar in my eye now prohibits the use of contacts to not reopen the wound.

Substantial astigmatism.

Edit: When I was a grad student, I had something going on with a girl, whom I'll call Betsy, who worked as a bartender. Late one afternoon, I walked into the (nearly empty) bar, which was long and narrow, looking for Betsy. I was without glasses, since I had just broken my only pair. I looked around, didn't "see" Betsy, but did the see manager, who was sitting at the end of the bar nearest the door. I asked the manager "Is Betsy here?". Looking puzzled, he replied "Why don't you ask the batender?" I walked towards the blob behind the other end ofthe bar, and about halfway there, I realized ...

Maybe I should stop making assumptions.

You are male right?
And you are an Earthling?

? I haven't the faintest idea what my prescription is. They're glasses, not scope EPs! They just do their magic!
