Welcome to PF!

It is easier to flip a low voltage switch than a high voltage switch because they are physically smaller

Thanks Russ.
Does it also mean it is safer ?

FAQ: Physics, electricity, engineering

What is the difference between physics and engineering?

Physics is the branch of science that deals with the study of matter, energy, and their interactions. It focuses on understanding the fundamental laws and principles that govern the behavior of the universe. Engineering, on the other hand, is the practical application of scientific and mathematical principles to design and build structures, machines, and systems.

How does electricity work?

Electricity is the flow of tiny particles called electrons through a conductor, such as a wire. These electrons move from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration, creating a flow of electricity. This flow is what powers our devices and allows us to use electricity in our daily lives.

What are the different types of electricity?

There are two types of electricity: direct current (DC) and alternating current (AC). DC electricity flows in one direction, while AC electricity alternates direction in a continuous flow. Most electronic devices use DC, while AC is used in power grids to transmit electricity over long distances more efficiently.

What is the role of engineering in society?

Engineering plays a crucial role in society by creating solutions to real-world problems and improving our quality of life. Engineers design and build everything from bridges and buildings to medical devices and technology. They also play a vital role in developing sustainable and environmentally friendly solutions to global challenges.

How does physics impact our daily lives?

Physics impacts our daily lives in countless ways. It explains how objects move, how electricity and magnetism work, and how light and sound behave. It also plays a role in the development of technology and innovations that make our lives easier, such as smartphones, computers, and medical equipment.
