Hi, not anything close to a physicist, but was interested in a question:
There are four dimentions in the visible universe - three space and one time dimention.
Is there any hierachy between the space and time dimentions?
To me space and time do not seem to be on an equal footing becase the physical dimentions are a function of time (for example a change in distance is proportional to time) but time is obviously not a function of itself.
If that makes any sense to anyone, then what is time a function of? I don't see anything other than gravity myself. Gravity is a function of mass, and that being a somewhat unexplained phenomenon fundamentally you get stuck there... ... That was a bit of a rant, but just wondering about the hierachy thing - I just can't see them as equals because time can describe aspects of space, but not the other way round.
