How much money does a university research professor generally earn per year?
mathwonk said:one enormous perq of a few top schools is free or discounted tuition for profesors' children.
so become a professor if you love the work, not for the salary. there will be many things you cannot afford as a professor, and if you are a hard worker, there will be many frustrations at dealing with many less determined people as students.

Those are the brute salaries they are offering here in the Netherlands. Taxes still need to be subtracted, ofcourse taxes here are way higher than in the US.. I guess costs of living are so too.vanesch said:I got my numbers a few (3-4) years back out of a booklet about public teaching salaries in France. Actually my numbers were a bit too low, and yours are a bit too high !
The average salary for a research professor varies depending on factors such as location, institution, and field of study. However, according to data from the National Science Foundation, the average salary for a research professor in the United States was $94,896 in 2020.
Research professors typically earn higher salaries compared to other academic positions such as assistant professors or lecturers. This is because research professors have a significant amount of experience and are responsible for securing funding and conducting their own research projects.
Yes, in addition to academic qualifications and experience, other factors that can affect a research professor's salary include the prestige of the institution they work for, their publication record, and the demand for their particular area of research.
Research professors may receive additional benefits such as health insurance, retirement plans, and funding for professional development and conference attendance. These benefits can vary depending on the institution they work for.
Research professors can increase their salary by securing more funding for their research projects, publishing papers in prestigious journals, and taking on additional responsibilities such as mentoring students or serving on committees. They can also negotiate for a higher salary when starting a new position or during performance reviews.
