In summary, a cell organelle is a specialized structure within a cell that performs a specific function. If a cell organelle stops functioning properly, the cell may not be able to perform its necessary functions, leading to cell death or dysfunction. The survival of a cell with a non-functioning organelle depends on the specific organelle and its function, as some are essential for survival while others can be replaced. Cells have the ability to adapt and compensate for the loss of a specific organelle by increasing the activity of other organelles or synthesizing new ones. Potential consequences of a non-functioning organelle can include disruption of cellular processes, accumulation of toxic substances, or cell death.

what happen's if one cell organelle quits working how does it affect the cell?

Well that'd depend entirely on which organelle, how damaged it was, etc.

I'd say the result would normally be either of two scenarios:
A) The cell manages to keep on working, perhaps repairing/replacing the damaged organelle.
B) Apoptosis. The 'self destruct button' gets triggered.

One can "cure" yeast of their mitochondria. They grow more slowly and require fatty acid supplementation.

FAQ: What happen's if one cell organelle quits working

What is a cell organelle?

A cell organelle is a specialized structure within a cell that performs a specific function.

What happens if a cell organelle quits working?

If a cell organelle stops functioning properly, the cell may not be able to perform its necessary functions. This can lead to cell death or dysfunction.

Can a cell survive if one organelle stops working?

It depends on the specific organelle and its function. Some organelles, such as the Golgi apparatus, are essential for cell survival, while others, like the lysosomes, can be replaced by other organelles.

How can a cell compensate for a non-functioning organelle?

Cells have the ability to adapt and compensate for the loss of a specific organelle. They may increase the activity of other organelles or synthesize new organelles to take on the function of the non-functioning one.

What are some potential consequences of a non-functioning organelle?

The consequences can vary depending on the organelle and its function. Some potential consequences could include disruption of cellular processes, accumulation of toxic substances, or cell death.
