AI Thread Summary
The discussion focuses on sourcing bare 3.5mm and RCA female connectors for a custom switch box project. The user seeks connectors without bulky stress relief features, as they will be used in a Radioshack project box. Recommendations include searching on Alibaba for a variety of options, although caution is advised regarding the stability of completely bare jacks. The need for connectors that allow for secure mounting is emphasized, as bare jacks may lack physical stability when in use. Overall, the conversation highlights the challenges of finding specific audio connectors for DIY projects.

I'm designing a little switch box to wire up a PS3's RCA cables into a 5.1 system that uses 3 3.5mm stereo inputs from my PC, but I'm having a hard time finding naked female connectors (i.e. Just the metal jack) - all the ones I can find have huge rubber or plastic things with stress relief. These are just going into a Radioshack project box, so I don't want that stuff.

I don't know enough about the different types to find what I'm looking for on Digikey, but if someone can point me in the right direction, that would be greatly appreciated.

Need:

6x 3.5mm stereo female "bare"
2x RCA female "bare"

alibaba.com has hundreds of 3.5 mm jacks, and RCA jacks also.

You'll have to look through them to find one that meets your needs.

A completely bare jack has nothing to attach to for physical mounting. When you push the male part in, what prevents the female jack from moving?

I used to be an HVAC technician. One time I had a service call in which there was no power to the thermostat. The thermostat did not have power because the fuse in the air handler was blown. The fuse in the air handler was blown because there was a low voltage short. The rubber coating on one of the thermostat wires was chewed off by a rodent. The exposed metal in the thermostat wire was touching the metal cabinet of the air handler. This was a low voltage short. This low voltage...
Thread 'How Does Jaguar's 1980s V12 Dual Coil Ignition System Enhance Spark Strength?'
I have come across a dual coil ignition system as used by Jaguar on their V12 in the 1980's. It uses two ignition coils with their primary windings wired in parallel. The primary coil has its secondary winding wired to the distributor and then to the spark plugs as is standard practice. However, the auxiliary coil has it secondary winding output sealed off. The purpose of the system was to provide a stronger spark to the plugs, always a difficult task with the very short dwell time of a...
I am not an electrical engineering student, but a lowly apprentice electrician. I learn both on the job and also take classes for my apprenticeship. I recently wired my first transformer and I understand that the neutral and ground are bonded together in the transformer or in the service. What I don't understand is, if the neutral is a current carrying conductor, which is then bonded to the ground conductor, why does current only flow back to its source and not on the ground path...
