Friction - why not conservative force?

I think the crucial point is that the system sliding mass - surface is not a closed ( by energy) system despite the fact that electromagnetic forces are in general non-conservative. The kinetic energy flows from molecule to molecule and the system cannot retain his energy.

Friction - why not conservative force?

We know that friction caused by electromagnetic forces. But then, why friction isn't a conservative force?

Energy in standing waves and nodes

sophiecentaur thanks for your reply. Your description is ok for the " real world". Suppose you have to introduce standing waves on the blackboard. You have two identical waves with equations y1 = Asin(kx-ωt) and y2 = Asin(kx+ωt) traveling at the same axis. There are two initial points where...

Energy in standing waves and nodes

Suppose that two identical waves travel in opposite directions. We know that a stationary wave is creating. How energy passes from the nodes?

Cm Acceleration: Rolling Cylinder Movement Analysis

hello and sorry for my english Let us consider a rolling whithout slipping cylinder. We can work in two different ways. First considering the motion as a pure translation of the cm plus a rotation about the cm. Second, considering the motion as a pure rotation about the instantaneous axis from...

    Angular Momentum: Conditions & Answers

First of all, sorry for my poor english I am studying classical mechanics and have a problem with angular momentum. I am looking many books but i can't find an exactly answer. Under what conditions can i apply L = I ω; So far i understand that i can apply this formula around either the cm or...
