This thread has changed my view of what I want to be when I grow up.

Guess I'm going to have to keep this book for another 5 years before I'll understand most of it:( It'll probably be thrown out by then.

Oh I see, I was under the impression that this book could be completely understood by any layman. Guess I was wrong.

Does anyone know of a good book that would guide me through the mathematics section of this book? My mathematics knowledge isn't up to par to comprehend some of the stuff Roger Penrose is talking about.

It was on the news on TV in australia. The guy was wearing some kind of material that can easily produce static electricity (forgot what it's called) and he was having an interview and I forgot the rest.

Don't you guys ever get so relaxed just before the exam that you can't focus properly? On my end of year exam I got so stressed out that just before the exam I relaxed myself to the point where my brain wouldn't work to it's full potential.

Is this book suitable for a high school student? I'm on holidays and would like to do some reading on physics. I still got one more year of high schoo left though, so I won't be going to uni next year.

Bah :( Guess it's just best to just wait till uni to start learning physics.

Is shankar's "Principles of quantum mechanics" suitable for a high school student who has only a basic understanding of calculus(able to derive e^x, ln(x) and sin/cos, and antidiff. the same stuff) and physics (eg F=ma and not much more)?

Wow thanks! That's really changed my view of what a theoretical physicist is exactly. I really just pictured some guy at a desk, or at a blackboard trying to come up with an equation.
