    Upthrust Reaction - Water Injection @ 5bar -8msw Subsea

    Hello, I have a problem Basically, in theory -- a damaged 1220mm dia pipeline sub-sea (-8msw) with a 500mm hole in the 12oclock position 600mm. Pipeline resting on the seabed The goal of the problem is to flush the pipeline of its contents in both directions. The idea - have a containment...

    Stress compound cylinder problem

    Yes as there is only one youngs mod given i would of thought it is the same material? Ive been working on it and i have worked out the stress due to interference fit first and then calulated with internal pressure. not realising i had to to this at first. :)

    Stress compound cylinder problem

    I have just worked the calculation again and got A=16666687.5 and B=26666.7 and subbing into lames eqautuon for hoop stress in and out σθin= 83.3MPa σθout= 33.3MPa this seems a more realistic answer, showing max stress is in the inside of the cylinder. ?

    Stress compound cylinder problem

    Ok thanks, so my answer is an acceptable one? I didn't think that would apply to cylinders.

    Stress compound cylinder problem

    Homework Statement A tube 40mm inside and 60mm outside dia is to be reinforced by shrinking on a tube of 80mm outside diameter. The compound tube is subjected to an internal pressure of 50MPa and the shrinkage allowance is such that the final maximum stress in each tube is the same...

    Thermodynamics-Pressure problem

    Ok, dW = P.dV --> W=P.dV

    Thermodynamics-Pressure problem

    well , W= F.d but i probably cannot use that without first working out for other info. The isobaric, constant pressure,

    Thermodynamics-Pressure problem

    Homework Statement A piston cylinder with a diameter of 25cm and an initial volume V1 of 10litres, contains air at pressure P1 of 650kPa and a temp T1 of 300K, an Isobaric process pccurs and the piston delivers 10kJ of work. Find the final volume V2 of the piston/cylinder in litres...

    Statics (frictional force) problem

    Hi tiny-tim, thanks for the reply. i didnt mean split the ladder, having the imaginary mass at the bottom ladder supporting it, the mass being the figure i need to find. I was splitting the mass from the ladder but at first i tried just summing the forces on the ladder as you advised but...

    Statics (frictional force) problem

    Homework Statement The question is: A uniform ladder of mass of 50kg is palced with its foot on a horizontal floor and its top against a vertical wall. Determine the minimum value of themass which must be placed against the foot of the ladder to retain it at an angle of 45degrees to the...
