How did John Napier invent his sliderule?

Hey thanks! So I came up with this: 1) Make a slide rule based on base 2 as follows. .25, .5, 1,2,4,8,16... 2) Question is where does the 3 go? Well, we know other powers of 2. For instance sqrt(2) is just half the distance between the marks on the base 2 rule. 3) So find some sum of...

    Napier invented that series?

How did John Napier invent his sliderule?

I don't think the original post too relevant but it was this.

How did John Napier invent his sliderule?

How would you do it from first principles? Assume you can only add and multiply: I can definitely type log(2) into my venerable HP15c simulator and the the answer but what if I was trying to INVENT logs, instead of using them to define themselves? That seems like cheating: circular.

Imperial or U of T for Aerospace Engineering Studies?

I think the Aero/Astro are generally combined at many schools, although they specialize as you've noted. Space is heavily focused on electronics, physics and mechanical. Aero is heavily focused on fluids, thermodynamics, also mechanical. Of course there's a lot of overlap but you might think...

How did John Napier invent his sliderule?

First, I'll note this interesting thread: #4158384. However I unfortunately don't have privileges to post there so I'll start this new one. I'm trying to make my own sliderule. How did they do it? How did Napier invent his "bones?" A more particular question would be: If I make a table of...

Find the velocity of an object to become a satellite of Eart

What's a? What's r? Watch units and you got your algebra wrong.

Recurve vs Longbow: Stored Energy & Arrow Velocity

I don't think this has been answered though jambaugh is close. Speed comes from energy, the integral of force x draw stroke. Given a max holding weight, you'd like to have that be constant (or heck, unsustainably large before you reach your anchor (see "compound" (note some people confused...

Is the CMB dipole influenced by the recession velocity of the CMB?

I have to agree with the question: if the universe is homogeneous and isotropic, shouldn't we be effectively at rest, since all coordinate frames are equivalent?
