A solid copper cube has an edge length of 87.0 cm. How much pressure must be applied to the cube to reduce the edge length to 85.7 cm? The bulk modulus of copper is 1.4 multiplied by 1011 N/m2.Homework Equations
Vcube= s^3
F/A=(B x deltaV)/V
p=F/A
p=(B x...
The deepest point in any ocean is in the Mariana Trench, which is about 11 km deep, in the Pacific. The pressure at this depth is huge, about 1.13 X 10^8 N/m^2.
(a) Calculate the change in volume of 1 m3 of seawater carried from the surface to this deepest point.
wrong check mark m3

Homework Statement
My textbook says, delta V = [-3V delta p (1 - 2c)] /E
where,
delta V = change in volume
delta p = change in pressure
c = poisson's ratio
E = young's modulus
Taking the limit as delta p tends to zero, we can write the bulk modulus K as,
K = -V dp/dV
but I'm not...

I am trying to solve one theoretical problem.
If I had an Iron piston cylinder with radius of 1 cm, such that it
contains 1 liter of water(therefore about 318 cm tall), ( say Bulk
Modulus of water is 1 GPascal), How much work(in joules) will be
required to depress...
I am getting the bulk modulus from fitting the equation of states and calculating the elastic constant. It seems that there is some relationship between bulk modulus B and elastic constant Cij, B=Cij/9,where i,j run from 1 to 3.
But my result is far away from this, say B=50 from fitting EOS and...
The questions is that
The equation of state (the equation relating pressure, volume, and temperature) for an ideal gas is pV=nRT, where n and R are constants.
a.) Show that if the gas is compressed while the temperature T is held constant, the bulk modulus is equal to the pressure.
b.)...
A solid ball of a special plastic material is to be used as a replacement joint for a patient’s hip. The mass per unit volume density of the ball is 900 kg/m3 and its radius is 1.5 cm. The ball is subjected to a test in which it is subjected to an increase in external pressure of 2 X 10 8...
An incerase of pressure of one atmosphere, causes a reduction of 49*10^-^6m^3 in a volume of 1m^3 Give the value of the bulk-modulus of water. Calculate the denisty of the water of a lake, at a depth of 200 metres, assuming that the density of water is 1000kgm^-^3 at the surface...
When I calculate the Bulk modulus for a metall with the free electron model
I get a value that is twice the experimental value.
I find this strange.
With the free electron model i don't get the contribution from the ion cores and the bound electrons, right?
Do these have a negavite...
