idler Definition and 1 Threads

I know this is probably a very simple question, that I should know the answer to, but nevertheless. I labeled the gears (sprockets) in this picture 1,2,3 and 4. Is this gear train compound? Or are the small gears just idler gears? Since the small gear (2) is on the same shaft as gear (3) I think...
