A professional is a member of a profession or any person who works in a specified professional activity. The term also describes the standards of education and training that prepare members of the profession with the particular knowledge and skills necessary to perform their specific role within that profession. In addition, most professionals are subject to strict codes of conduct, enshrining rigorous ethical and moral obligations. Professional standards of practice and ethics for a particular field are typically agreed upon and maintained through widely recognized professional associations, such as the IEEE. Some definitions of "professional" limit this term to those professions that serve some important aspect of public interest and the general good of society. In some cultures, the term is used as shorthand to describe a particular social stratum of well-educated workers who enjoy considerable work autonomy and who are commonly engaged in creative and intellectually challenging work.
What do you guys think of these Professional Master's Physics or Professional M.S. Physics degrees? Who has the best ones? I found an old report online, but the list is definitely out-dated.
Writing requires greater intellectual capabilities than advanced math because there are no rules with the exception grammar and spelling whereas with math it's more about repetition. Having an essay published in the New Yorker, for example, requires more brainpower than fully grasping general...

I am a "lay" person. I understand that I lack the mathematics knowledge necesary to fully understand advanced concepts in physics. Nevertheless, I find theoretical physics fascinating, and want to learn more. I have learned much from reading this board, and then using what i have read as a...
I am going to invest in a copy of Win XP pro to install on my MAC. A quick search on Google for "windows xp professional" yields prices that vary from as low as $89 like http://www.softwarestockpile.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=MS-10293&click=30".

It has always been a mystery to me why so many Americans idolize professional athletes. Football and basketball players are especially idolized.
Why don't we just go further down the evolutionary ladder and have gorillas be our professional football players? I think that humans could train...
A few years ago, using sports cards and internet websites for my sources on heights and weights, I calculated the average height and weight of athletes from several sports.
In Major League Baseball and the NHL, the average player is exactly 6'1" and approximately 200 pounds (The average...
Hello,
I have a question about the benefit of professional experience in getting into graduate school in physics. I have a BS in physics from a reasonable school and I had the good fortune of being hired after I graduated by a company that is doing research and development on emissions...

It seems that watching sports may be too dangerous to be allowed to continue; at least based on the popular paradigm of banning all things bad.

Of all the jobs I've held, teaching one on one or in small groups (tutoring) has been my favorite and the most rewarding. I was teaching a subject which I wasn't super excited about (basic algebra), yet I still enjoyed going to work every day.
I'm a micro/biochem major in college, but it...
i ll be completing my BE Mechanical in a year and a half. right from my high school, i knew i was to be a mechanical engineer. Now i ll be, but its just not i thought what it would be, something is just missing. 99% of my college mates plan to get an MBA degree, reason: what is engineering going...

I haven't posted here in a while, and it feels good to be back. Here's my dilemma. I have taught AP Mechanics and Electricity & Magnetism at a private school for a few years now. My background is not in Physics, however, and therefore I have not taken some of the standard courses that a...
Does anyone know of any websites that have a list of professional organizations within the engineering and science industry? Particularly, I'm looking for an organization related to physics. I know of the major ones in mathematics (MAA, AMS, etc.) as well as computer science (ACS, etc.), but I...
Einstein was wrong, and should be Cartanized! (:D this is professional research)
that's what I get from Derek's paper----classical 1915 Gen Rel is wrong because it uses a vintage 1850s manifold which has flat tangent spaces that don't roll.
It should be moved over and put on a Cartan manifold...
Monday afternoon I have a final in a statics and dynamics course. The professor announced that the questions were going to be right from an old professional engineering exam. Can anyone give me some examples of the kinds of problems that are usually asked or direct me to some online study...
Berkeley writes :
" Note that the dynamics of the Universe are not determined entirely by the geometry (open, closed or flat) unless the Universe contains only matter. In our Universe, where most of Omega comes from dark energy, this relation between the mass density, spatial curvature and...

There is a smooth real-valued function f(x) defined on the positive reals such that, for all x>0 and for all y>0, the following identities are always true:
f(y) + 1/[(x^2)f(x)] = S/(xy)
f(x) – f(S) = y/(xS)
1/[(y^2)f(y)] - 1/[(S^2)f(S)] = x/(yS)
S is merely a function of x and y and...
Hi, I was wondering what the "big" math people here think about a correllation between recreational problems and performance in professional math fields. I hope this isn't too much of a stupid question. But this is what I was thinking.
I was wondering if people who do well on the AIME, USAMO...
