Research is "creative and systematic work undertaken to increase the stock of knowledge". It involves the collection, organization, and analysis of information to increase understanding of a topic or issue. A research project may be an expansion on past work in the field. To test the validity of instruments, procedures, or experiments, research may replicate elements of prior projects or the project as a whole.
The primary purposes of basic research (as opposed to applied research) are documentation, discovery, interpretation, and the research and development (R&D) of methods and systems for the advancement of human knowledge. Approaches to research depend on epistemologies, which vary considerably both within and between humanities and sciences. There are several forms of research: scientific, humanities, artistic, economic, social, business, marketing, practitioner research, life, technological, etc. The scientific study of research practices is known as meta-research.
Hi, I'm a community college student looking for informations about interns and research that pertains to engineering or physics
My goal is to transfer to Harvey Mudd College, Georgia Institute of Technology, MIT, and if all else fails Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. So besides my GPA, internship is...
Hi Everyone,
I am about to enter my third year in the undergraduate program, and was hoping to start searching for a Professor who would supervise my fourth year independent program. My goal is to fulfill my program requirements and enter into a Masters program. Now I have heard and read that...
Hello,
Am a student in 3rd year of Applied physics and next year am supposed to present my research project so i would like to ask how does one choose a topic.
Cannon Fire!
Can anyone please help me figre this one out;
A senior physics class conducting a research project on projectile motion constructs a device that can launch a cricket ball. The launching device is designed so that the ball can be launced at ground level with an initial velocity...
I am in a senior level scientific measurements using digital interfacing class, which is basically like a smash-up of digital circuits lab, intro to DAQ and DAC/ADC, and senior project. Now, part of this class, only 10%, is a independent "research" project. I put this in quotes because we only...
Hello everybody,
I've been assigned a research project on Symmetric Informationally Complete Positive Operator Valued Measures (SIC-POVMs), and I'm wondering if anybody knows of any particularly good websites or books that could assist me in this venture (other than the obvious Wiki entry and...
I am thinking of applying for a bursary to do a research project for 4-6 weeks during the summer holidays in 2009. The one problem is I can't think of a project to undertake. The criteria are:
I have a good understanding of physics for my age (16). All suggestions are welcome.
Thanks!
research project idea!?
Hey, I am currently a junior in high school, and I need help on choosing a research topic.
While looking and analyzing many "web pages" over the prestigious Caltech, I noticed one common thing. They only wanted students who showed a strong admiration toward science and...
For a research project, I am in need of CFD software. Does anybody know any relatively inexpensive, or free, software I may purchase that will help me?
Thanks
I am trying to do a research project for school and I am having difficulty coming up with a word for my research. Let's say... You have a guy use a hand dynamometer and tell him to exert the max amount of force that he can and then tell him his results. You then tell him to exert the minimal...
I am in a Research Class that goes for two years, and over the course of the two years I need to come up with a research project that I, just a high school student, can do and complete. It should be fairly original research. But I am having an extremely hard time thinking of topics. The teacher...
I'm looking ahead to winter quarter 2008 when I will be starting an independent research project. I wanted to get an early start in thinking about what I might be able to do. I am thinking that I want to do something in signal processing, but don't have enough knowledge to make a choice. Here...
Hi everybody,
I am currently at a summer program hosted by my home state of Georgia (USA) called the Governors Honor's Program. Right now we are preparing for our final project that's supposed to take up the remainder of our time here (roughly three weeks). My partner and I are supposed to...
I guess this is only for people who are familiar with dynamical systems and circle maps.
Let f be a C^3 diffeomorphism of the circle. Prove that f is infinity renormalizable iff f has an irrational rotation number.
Pf.
Let's do the forward implication first. Assume that f is infinitely...
Hi,
I'm looking for a jornal where undergraduate students can publish what they did as part of a research project(not very advanced). It has to be such that anyone around the world can submit. If anyone knows such journal please reply!
Oh, by the way I'm talking about mathematics journal
so i need to do a project (ie. a research report) on something in physics
that is interesting. i need to be able to use maths to do calculations or
explanations or something with it, and it has to have quite a lot of
content. this is only high school level physics, so i can't do (or...
Hi everyone,
This is my first time posting. Basically, I need to design and carry out an upper level research project for a class I'm taking.
My two ideas so far:
1) Design a realistic, mathematical model for the growth of a non-rotating, non-polarized Schwarzschild black hole...
2)...
Would this be a good idea for a research project, i.e as it has controversey in it, photoelectric effect verses Youngs double slit.
im doing A-level, and this is a piece of coursework.
thank you!
I am currently a masters student in a compsci program. I am thinking about doing my research thesis on a topic in computational physics. Is anyone involved in this area of research? I am looking for a decent topic for the masters level but haven't found anything suitable.

I have a question I'm craving to ask about the relationship of dimensions and entropy. It's a specific question I'm having a really hard time identifying. So here is the outline that has been floating in my mind for days now:
In The Elegant Universe, Greene describes...
I have to take a Physics Project course where I would have to undertake a reserach endeavour whilst being supervised by a Professor at the university...any suggestions as to what this endeavour could be? This is a senior level underdergraduate course and my interest is in particle physics...
I'm just about to start a piece of research project on particle physics. Can anyone give me some useful ideas and websites containing useful information?
I just want to have a general idea about it.
Also interesting things that I can do with Particles.
What types of theories are linked to...
