Hi all I just got my girlfriend a Orion SpaceProbe 130 EQ Reflector Telescope
with 900 mm full lengh
it came with a 10mm and a 25 mm lens
I also bought a Orion Shorty 2x Barlow Lens, 1.25"
and a moon filter
Saturday was her birthday It gets great shots of the moon
We tried looking at...
Hi. Thanks for your help. I have a Bushnell Mak Cassegrain 100mm telescope. I can focus Saturn in pretty clearly, except that I can't find the right eyepiece that would allow me to view the rings to any degree. I can see a moon around it. Also, when I focus in on Jupiter, it looks smaller...
I have a Bushnell 100mm Mak Cassegrain telescope. When viewing Saturn with my 32mm eyepiece I can see it but I can't differentiate between the rings. When I use a 4, 6, or 9mm eyepiece, the image jumps so much I give up. Why is that and what can I do? Thank you so much.

Now it’s Saturn’s turn to flummox astrophysicists. The Russian astronomer Elean Pitjeva, who heads the Laboratory of Ephemeris Astronomy at the Institute of Applied Astronomy in St Petersburg, has analysed a huge data set of planetary observations dating back to 1913, including 3D observations...
Here's a picture of it

I found this very striking and am surprised that there has been so little talk about it. My best guess is that it has something to do with tidal forces being exerted by multiple moons. I'm...
Viewing Saturn from a 6" telescope
Hello
I am not quite sure what resolution i am suppose to see if i look through saturn in my Orion 6" Newtonian reflector at 300X. Can anyone show me a picture of saturn from a 6" telescope that is not editted? Thank You
Scott
Hi all,
I have read this article about Saturn rings:
http://www.space.com/news/ap-071213-saturn-ringage.html
The author argues as:
Quotes:
"The notion that Saturn's rings may be a permanent feature was based on observations by the ultraviolet spectrograph instrument on Cassini, which...
Dear all,
Can only the outter planet form rings? If Saturn were moved very close to the Sun, would it be able to maintain its ring system? I personally don't think so due to the fact the high tmperatures would vaporise a lot of the ice in the ring system but I would like to everyone else's...
I just found this on Edge.org- it has got to be one of the most beautiful space photographs ever- taken by Casini- shown at the TED conference:

the caption:
One of these days, Edge may want to run this photo, which planetary...

What could be the cause of this hexagon feature on saturn

I know this isn't really 'earth sciences' but there is no planetary forum that I am aware of. Anyway, why does Saturn have rings, and what are they made of?
I read somewhere that Enceladus is the major souce of Saturn's largest ring, the 'E-ring'. What does that mean...
What would happen if Saturn had become a second Sun in the formation of our universe? Would Earth have ever come to the way it is now? What would happen if it all of a sudden became a sun this very instant?
All comments are appreciated!
As a fun teaching tool for several areas of math and science, imagine that happening. The planet floats in water. What happens next and how does it look? Has anybody thought this through and made an animated video?
First fill your tub to about the 50,000 mile mark. Surprise: most of the...
Some pretty neat images here of a very large storm on Saturn with some similarities to a hurricane.

CUTTING THE MILLENNIAL DIVIDE
One of the most beautiful objects in the heavens is Saturn. It has 34 moons and one is called Titan, the second largest moon in our solar system. It was discovered in 1655, some 350 years ago. Beginning with Voyager 1 and Pioneer 11 in the late 1970s...
I set up my scope on my deck at my new townhouse for the first time last night. It was pretty good, though my scope's tracking was pretty mediocre.
First up, Jupiter, with Callisto to the left, Ganymede and Europa to the right, and Io in front, casting a shadow.
Next, comet...
I hear that saturn satellites collapsed because of an incident or s.th like this and then because of their gravity they reconstructed again.
what do you think or know about it?!
Now imagine the Saturn is diminished and can be put into a PURE water container ..
Then Is that the Saturn is immersed half of itself till the centre of the Saturn ?? (Since Saturn also has gravity itself )
There are lots of such wrt Jupiter; several moons in the Saturn system (3? 4? more??), and one wrt Neptune. There is also at least one asteroid that is in some kind of odd relationship with one of the stable Earth Lagrange points.
Is that it? Are there any good papers showing that the...
I posted my own thread without even seeing this one. D'oh. Anyway, I got my best yet (only my 3rd try...) shot of Saturn. The sky was very clear, but it was windy, full moon, and a lot of light pollution. I had to wait for a break in the wind, then shot a 30 second avi clip. Equipment is an...
hi, I'm an undergraduate from the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne, and I'm trying to develop an accurate model of a launch of a saturn V rocket for a project.
i have access to the technical specs like fuel capacities, consumption rates, etc. but i need help on some of the harder...
How would Saturn and Jupiter look in a telescope of 6 or 8 inch aperture at about 200 to 250 power? I've read some extremely varying answers to this on the internet, so I was hoping someone with firsthand observational experience could help me out here. For example, what size would they appear...
This came from a closed thread from 2003, but in light of new data and the fact that Mr. Martin has been on the radio this week telling millions of people that this object photographed by Cassini is the mothership he told of. One would think it's important to re examine his claim.
I found the link to this on slashdot and I thought it was very interesting so I brought it here.

if you drive a front-wheel drive car 100mph onto the back of a car carrier driving 99mph, could you ease it on at 1mph, or would it fly off the front at 100mph? I need to know before my drive home tonight.
