I have been trying to find some values for how much watts per square meter there is of energy on the ground due to the sun, but everywhere there are different values ranging from 100-1000 Watts so I have no clue of what to believe... And also are these values per second/minute/day?
So however...
Forgive my noobness and possibly the wrong forum selection.
As we live within collecting distance of an energy abundant star, would it not be possible to harness that energy, through delicately polished mirrors mounted on satellites and then direct those satellites at a few key points around...

I'm currently studying computer science, but I'm convinced solar engineering is where I'm supposed to be. I have some robotics courses coming up junior and senior year, but I would like to know what are some of the engineering courses I could take during the summer to prepare me for a graduate...
i am about to do a project on harnessing solar energy using fresnel lens. However, i do not understand how a fresnel lens works. Could someone please clarify how it works (how can it converge light despite having a flat face) and why does it have more converging ability than other lenses?
I was wondering how long it takes to heat up materials. And how long will they hold their energy?
Say for like thermal energy storage, how long does it take to heat up molten salts or other substances with sunlight? I guess I could just use Q=mcT and divide by time and then solve for time...
Hello. I want to work with Photovoltaics and with the renewable industry. Electric motors, boats, cars. Is EE a good choice? I was thinking first in ME but looks like you see more of solar energy in EE. Please i need urgent advice i only left like 2 moths to make a choice.

At Earth’s location, the intensity of sunlight is 1.5 kW/m^2. If no energy escapes
Earth, by how much would Earth’s mass increase in a day? (Radius of Earth is
6.37 × 10^6 m.)

ok so, at anyone time, half of the Earth is lit.
so surface area lit =...
our proposed thesis will be about solar panel..we want to design a circuit that will maximize the usage of the energy of the sun, whenever it is available in greater amount using microcontroller. we would like to ask some ideas to realize this project in order for us to complete our requirements...
I am currently working on a project that requires me to design and analyse a solar powered. My motor has features such; 36v (Max), 300A (Max), 93% efficiency, 2.5mΩ, 12kW (Max).
I used the maximum power and the efficiency to calculate the power input (from the battery). How do i calculate the...

Current solar-panel technology has the efficiency of converting 12% of the solar energy to electricity. Given that on a sunny day in Arizona the average solar radiation energy flux is 1.0 kW/m^2 , and that the area of Arizona is 3.0 × 10^5 km^2 ,
1. What percentage of...
I have just purchased 20 2w solar panels, i am brand new at this kinda stuff but i am very very interested in how it all works. can anyone help me, or explain how its done basically i would like to be able to charge a battery with solar panels.. thanks ..
Hi everyone,
Can anyone tell me how to build simple solar energy generator for kid of age 5 – 7 year?
Please tell and send me with some drawing.
Thank you very much in advance

hi... i have a thought in advance, that i can charge my cell phone through solar energy itself . actually I am doing my activities regarding that... giva me some suggestions which is helpful for me.. and i want to know why this is still not in market..my project is reasonable or not ?...
I've been involved for a long time going over astronomical influences on climate. My job is to be an astronomer and I don't know about climate. Maybe you think this is impossible, but I think it would be too complex to say whether a record of some sort within the ice was the driving force of all...
I will be do a project soon on a topic that I pick. I am interested in solar energy but one of the requirements for the project is to show calculations related to your topic. Are any calculations that wouldn't be to hard that might be relevant or should I find another topic?

Negelcting internal heat sources, the surface Temperature of the Earth is calculated to be 255 K. Its actual mean surface Temperature is 288 K. The additional heating results from the greenhouse effect. Regarding this as an internalk heat source, calculate that heat source...
I am an amateur science/engineering enthusiast (AA electrical engineering), I would like to design/build a solar energy system consisting of a small tracking parabolic mirror heating a steam boiler to drive a small turbine-generator. The mirror I am thinking 3 foot diameter and I have some idea...
I am to design a laboratory experiment to compare the energy conversion rates of two standard methods for solar energy to be 'trapped' for domestic use. See below*. I need to compare the two systems and find out which is more efficient. The energy source should be a standard 150W light bulb...

I'm stuck on a formula I'm using to design a solar water heater at uni (and no, I'm not a physics student, otherwise I'd probably be kicking myself its such a stupid question) and I understand the theory behind it, I just can't work out what the Qs stands for.
