In physics, sound energy is a form of energy that can be heard by living beings. Only those waves that have a frequency of 16 Hz to 20 kHz are audible to humans. However, this range is an average and will slightly change from individual to individual. Sound waves that have frequencies below 16 Hz are called infrasonic and those above 20 kHz are called ultrasonic. Sound is a mechanical wave and as such consists physically in oscillatory elastic compression and in oscillatory displacement of a fluid. Therefore, the medium acts as storage for both potential and kinetic energy.Consequently, the sound energy in a volume of interest is defined as the sum of the potential and kinetic energy densities integrated over that volume:
V is the volume of interest;
p is the sound pressure;
v is the particle velocity;
ρ0 is the density of the medium without sound present;
ρ is the local density of the medium; and
c is the speed of sound.
I have an acoustics question regarding mounting of a subwoofer enclosure, here is wireframe view of situation:
I have a sealed subwoofer box lets assume it is running high power 250 W RMS. It has flanges that come out that have 30 Duro Isolating Pads between the flanges and the base board...
Since thermal energy is the vibration of molecules and sound is too, what is the difference? And why exactly do atoms radiate different energies as a result of vibrations?
So I'm trying to understand how the modulus works in metals. I understand that when the temperature rises, that means that the modulus decreases. But I do not understand exactly what it is or how it affects the way that the molecules would vibrate for instance, as kinetic sound energy moved...
Hi everyone, I am looking to improve the transmission of sound from a small 1/2" electro-mechanical transducer through a plastic medium (about 1/4" thick). I understand plastic is not a great medium for this but I do not have the ability to change this. The defacto setup doesn't work too...
Homework Statement
Why is there more heat and sound energy produced with a larger collision?
Homework EquationsThe Attempt at a Solution
Honestly no clue. I would really appreciate any help! Any videos would also help!
Hello! I'm new to this website, so apologies if I'm a little off with the way I format this question.
Nonetheless:
This last year, I've been researching sound energy and methods of focusing, harvesting, and storing this energy.
Essentially, I'm looking at the possibility of harnessing sound...
Homework Statement
"A continuous sound wave with a sound intensity level of 80dB passes through a hole in a wall which has a cross-sectional area of 3m^2. How much energy passes through this hole in 10 minutes, in joules?"
If anyone can show me how this problem is solved it's be much...
Is there a way to convert light energy to a sound energy?
I read an article and the URL is http://www.photonics.com/Article.aspx?AID=52646
It is described that nano material lenses are used.
Is there a much simpler way that I convert light to sound?
Homework Statement
Sound, a form of energy can be modeled by using two distinctly different approaches.
a) Describe the propagation of sound energy through air by discussing the motion of individual particles. Include possible mathematical equations that might apply.
b) describe the...

1. Homework Statement
The sound level 24 m from a loudspeaker is 66 dB. What is the rate at which sound energy is produced by the loudspeaker, assuming it to be an isotropic source?
____W
2. Homework Equations
?
Something to do with Intensity?
3. The Attempt at a Solution...
i might have already posted this i forgot
basically one day i was why can't we get more energy from a motor by using its sound waves.
but some has thought of that already so...
how does he do it. how does it work.
