I'm uneducated in Physics so I'm not sure where to begin with this.
I want to build a vacuum chamber that is rectangular and fairly flat. It will measure 48"X96"X8"
I plan on constructing it from clear polycarbonate sheet on one face (would clear acrylic be a better choice?) and aluminum sheet...
I work with some samples that are dissolved in ethanol. Currently, we plate them, and evaporate overnight in a fume hood, and then bake them using a standard convection lab oven. It takes about 24 hours and really slows me down.
And buying an explosion proof vacuum oven is ridiculously...
Homework Statement
A 200 g oscillator in a vacuum chamber has a frequency of 2.0 Hz. When air is admitted, the oscillation decreases to 60% of its initial amplitude in 50 s.
How many oscillations will have been completed when the amplitude is 30% of its initial value?

This is NOT a "problem", it's a rather a question.
Let's say I've got a vacuum chamber, and I suck the air out of it using a vacuum pump that is capable of doing -200 Kpa. Let's also say that there is a valve on this chamber. After a full vacuum has reached, I open this valve WHILE the pump is...
Not sure whether this would be better in materials or mechanical.
I'm building a vacuum chamber which is going to house silica gel, I've got a prototype made out of PVC, but I'm afraid of running it up to 180-200 deg F to regenerate the silica. For the large scale I'm going to need to build a...
My aerospace application requires a very lightweight vacuum chamber. Could you rotate a cylindrical chamber about its vertical axis to provide outward pressure to support the pressure of the air? How fast would it have to rotate to provide an outward pressure of 15 lbs./sq. in.? The initial...
