A woman is an adult female human. Prior to adulthood, a female human is referred to as a girl (a female child or adolescent). The plural women is sometimes used in certain phrases such as "women's rights" to denote female humans regardless of age.
Typically, women have two X chromosomes and are capable of pregnancy and giving birth from puberty until menopause. Female anatomy, as distinguished from male anatomy, includes the fallopian tubes, ovaries, uterus, vulva, Skene's glands, and Bartholin's glands. The adult female pelvis is wider, the hips broader, and the breasts larger than that of adult males. Women have significantly less facial and other body hair, have a higher body fat composition, and are on average shorter and less muscular than men.
Throughout human history, traditional gender roles have often defined and limited women's activities and opportunities; many religious doctrines stipulate certain rules for women. With restrictions loosening during the 20th century in many societies, women have gained access to careers beyond the traditional homemaker, and the ability to pursue higher education. Violence against women, whether within families or in communities, has a long history and is primarily committed by men. Some women are denied reproductive rights. The movements and ideologies of feminism have a shared goal of achieving gender equality.
Trans women have a male sex assignment at birth that does not align with their gender identity, while intersex women may have sex characteristics that do not fit typical notions of female biology.

Proof: Let x be the number of men, y be the number of women
and z be the number of children.
Then we have 3x+2y+0.5z=100
such that x+y+z=100.
Note that x+y+z=100 gives us z=100-x-y.
Substituting this result...
hmmmm this question is a bit confusing... i.e on the part of finding the number of women.

OK, first of all, I am not quite certain where this topic should go. It does deal with academic guidelines and requirements, but it isn't really a "guidance" for students. So I was half tempted to post this in the General Discussion forum, but at the last minute, decided to post it in Academic...
There is a movie out--"Hidden Figures"--about how three women launched the space program; or something like that.
My daughter wants to write about them for a school project.
I keep suggesting my daughter write about Sophie Germain, or Emmy Noether, Daubechies or Hypatia.
But my daughter...

Apparently it has been thought that heart disease is mostly a men's disease.
But - Since 1984, more women than men have died each year from heart disease. Heart disease is now the No. 1 killer of women, causing more deaths than all cancers combined! And yet only 56 percent of American women...
First of all, I'd like to clarify my title by pointing out it is NOT a dodgy pick-up line. I am a female myself and have noticed that pretty much every woman who enrolled at my university in physics is going on, or plans to go into the field of astrophysics, myself included.
I am wondering if...

My daughter graduates next week.
Major in EE, minor in Physics and Econ.
Here are my observations as a parent of a daughter who was only 1 of 4 EE females at her school. My daughter's school is proud of how they encourage females in engineering, but they should be ashamed of it...
Hi all,
I want to read and learn about the contributions minorities and women have made to science so that I can highlight these contributions when I teach and be aware of them. I really am not sure where to look for this information, though.
I was hoping some people on here might be able...
In how many ways can a non-empty collection of people to be chosen from 4 men and 3 women to lineup for a photo if the number of men must be the same as the number of women?
I said
{4 \choose 1} {3 \choose 1} 2! +{4 \choose 2} {3 \choose 2} 4! + {4 \choose 3} {3 \choose 3} 6!
Is this right?
What evolutionary advantage does it serve? Is the lack of physical strength simply a biproduct of being able to give birth? It seems strange that those who produce the young would not be able to defend themselves most efficiently.
There seem to be blogs popping up all over the place about women in science. They are a great idea. There is often a lack of science on such pages making it difficult to get a good picture of what women in science are actually doing.
I am an accelerator physicist, at this moment working on...

I was watching Lincoln last night, and at a part were the idea of women voting was laughed at by the legislators.

My retort was that around...

Women aren't cattle, they're not "owned" and should have the same rights as men. I just find this attitude toward women unacceptable.

I'm curious:
Do most people (personal, industry, academia) still consider women a minority in physics?
I was looking up a requirement for a fellowship which was specifically for minorities, and it got me thinking about this question.
Personally, it seems like being female and...
There is so much baloney that people write and say about how men can get women to feel attracted to them. I have seen and heard so called pick up artists argue this ad nauseum. Male pick up artists all say: It's all about confidence. This is such baloney. Whoever heard of a woman who said...
My personal opinion is that generally more men are insecure/self-conscious (especially in this generation), however, maybe not to the extent women are. Any thoughts?
I know that science hasn't always been kind to women in the past but that seems to have changed. So why is it that there are so few women in the scientific community. I know it isn't extremely difficult to find a woman scientist, but compared to men the numbers are rather low (according to...
Any women out there with a PhD in physics?

If so, what do they garner by them?
Today I bought my very first pair of very fine shoes. Hopefully they'll last a loooong time. I'm also just wondering if what they say is true, do mothers really tell their daughters to check out a man's shoes?
Why are women more brightly "colored" (whereas in other animals males usually are)?
So, possibly I'm looking for the explanation according to Richard Dawkins, but I'd welcome all points of view. Why do women dress more brightly (when men still do the courting), while in other animals the sex...
It's a simple question that deeply depresses me: Why do girls like guys that lie to them? The sad part is that most of them don't even know they are being lied to/like being lied to most of them time. I am asking this question both from my observation of people and my own experiences; I find...
I hope that my thread title does not sound too risqué. I have noticed in my city, now that it is summer, that many women are wearing tops that are completely open at the back, exposing the undergarments. This got me thinking (always a dangerous thing)...why are so many women wearing these tops...
It's my perception from random remarks that have been made here over the years that most people's math/science classes have been populated by a markedly higher proportion of men than women, and that interest in math/science dooms guys to a sort of involuntary monastic existence, as far as...
