Two excellent songs.
I liked The Doors but I was not a diehard fan...

...but once I was driving at night in the middle of nowhere, and Riders On The Storm suddenly started playing on the radio... it was the perfect circumstance for hearing the song, and my appreciation for the song was greatly increased after that experience. 🙂

The Searchers (post #30) do a credible job on "What Have They Done to the Rain" but Joan Baez's version has an ethereal beauty that transcends that and, to my mind, any other rain song I've ever heard.

I heard her sing this, and other of her songs when I was in college in the mid 60's. Her concert was incredible.

Ah, that one conjures (good) memories of my senior high school years, during which (among other things) I formed a new friendship that has lasted to this day.:oldcry:

The sad emoticon is because my friend (who I think of as a brother) now has very severe health problems.

["What Have They Done to the Rain" ... Joan Baez]

What have they done, indeed? The heavy violent rain here around Xmas night on the Gold Coast (QLD) was unprecedented, blasting large areas. I heard later there was even a small tornado that passed within a few kms of my place (though I was untouched). That's also unheard-of until now.

You're talking about climate change. She's singing about nuclear fallout. Not quite the same thing.

Yes, I know. But it only just occurred to me that the sentiment is applicable to both.

Anyway... the following is not a song about rain as such, but something a tad more uplifting after the rain...

... yet it still induces tears if I'm in a melancholy mood.

So many different kinds of music! Like that Supertramp rain song with a happy ending.

Don't think it's raining in Dallas, Texas, tonight, but lots of football fans are sure crying.
Texas Flood. Stevie Ray Vaughan, RIP, gone so young.

Prince and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Wow, couple high E leads. With rain songs!

Best concert I ever saw was Youngbloods, Santana, and Grateful Dead in '69 in a UCSB college gymnasium. Acoustics not the greatest but intimate setting. Youngbloods played first, then Santana played their 1st album, and last the Dead played their entire Live/Dead album. Santana's high E sound was just electric, the most memorable that evening. Here's Youngbloods' "Rain Song."

and Winter.

Summer:
Allegro non molto
Under a hard season, fired up by the sun
Languishes man, languishes the flock and burns the pine
We hear the cuckoo's voice;
then sweet songs of the turtledove and finch are heard.
Soft breezes stir the air, but threatening
the North Wind sweeps them suddenly aside.
The shepherd trembles,
fearing violent storms and his fate.

Adagio e piano – Presto e forte
The fear of lightning and fierce thunder
Robs his tired limbs of rest
As gnats and flies buzz furiously around.

Presto
Alas, his fears were justified
The Heavens thunder and roar and with hail
Cut the head off the wheat and damages the grain.

Winter:
Allegro non molto
To tremble from cold in the icy snow,
In the harsh breath of a horrid wind;
To run, stamping one's feet every moment,
Our teeth chattering in the extreme cold

Largo
Before the fire to pass peaceful,
Contented days while the rain outside pours down.

Allegro
We tread the icy path slowly and cautiously,
for fear of tripping and falling.
Then turn abruptly, slip, crash on the ground and,
rising, hasten on across the ice lest it cracks up.
We feel the chill north winds course through the home
despite the locked and bolted doors...
this is winter, which nonetheless
brings its own delights.

THIS is why I love YouTube. Beatles =blocked and 101 other bands, how about a cover with only a few subscribers? She does a great job and even wears the cool 60s glasses.
I forgot to say that I've listened to this song quite a few times because I liked it (I really liked her vocals in particular), and it has often given me the earworm syndrome.

I'm not joking, the first time I heard it I had the song stuck in my head the entire day .

Well, nothing to complain about, it's a great song, so it wasn't painful .
