Any IP-68 bulkheads under 15mm diam?

In summary, the conversation is about finding a suitable connector for an enclosure concept. The speaker is looking for a 6-contact locking push-pull circular connector with a maximum flange diameter of 15mm and an IP-68 rating with crimp-termination on the cable end. They have found options from Hirose and Fischer, but they are out of their price range. They are seeking advice from others who may have dealt with similar connectors.

Hi,

I'm trying to put together an enclosure concept and running into trouble with connectors. I need to use a panel mount bulkhead with mating connector, and the best option within my limitations is to work with 6-contact locking push-pull circular connectors.

I need to keep the bulkhead flange under 15mm in diameter. They also need to be IP-68 rated and use crimp-termination on the cable end. Hirose and Fischer make some in the $5+ region which is getting out of my price range.

Just tossing the question out there in case someone has dealt with similar connectors. Thanks,

Seth

That price range seems reasonable. It's not easy to have an IP-68 rating on a product.

FAQ: Any IP-68 bulkheads under 15mm diam?

What is the IP-68 rating for bulkheads?

The IP-68 rating is a standard that indicates the level of protection against dust and water ingress for electronic devices. A bulkhead with an IP-68 rating is completely dust-tight and can withstand immersion in water up to a depth of 1.5 meters for up to 30 minutes.

How small can a bulkhead be while still maintaining an IP-68 rating?

The IP-68 rating does not have a specific size limit. As long as the bulkhead meets the requirements for dust and water protection, it can be any size. However, it may be more challenging to design a smaller bulkhead that meets the IP-68 standard.

Are there any IP-68 bulkheads smaller than 15mm in diameter?

Yes, there are IP-68 bulkheads available in various sizes, including those smaller than 15mm in diameter. However, the availability and size options may vary depending on the manufacturer and specific application requirements.

What materials are commonly used to make IP-68 bulkheads under 15mm in diameter?

Materials commonly used for IP-68 bulkheads include stainless steel, aluminum, and plastics such as polycarbonate or ABS. These materials are chosen for their durability and ability to withstand harsh environments.

How are IP-68 bulkheads tested and certified?

IP-68 bulkheads undergo rigorous testing by accredited agencies to verify their level of dust and water protection. The testing involves subjecting the bulkhead to various conditions, including dust exposure and immersion in water, to ensure it meets the IP-68 standard. Once the bulkhead passes the tests, it is certified with an IP-68 rating.
