Average speed needed to flip a vehicle

In summary, Car A, an Audi 5 weighing approximately 3,900 lbs, collided with Car B's passenger side at an intersection, causing Car B, a Lexus NX weighing approximately 4,000 lbs, to flip over sideways towards the driver's side. Car B had recently stopped and was traveling at 15 mph through the intersection, while the posted speed limit was 35 mph. However, there is not enough information to determine if Car A was actually traveling at 35 mph. The forum rules do not allow for questions of this nature, as it requires a thorough analysis from a professional with a complete report of all the conditions involved in the collision.

Car A hits Car B's passenger side at intersection (T Bone). Car B flips over sideways in the direction of the driver's side. The intersection is basically level.
Car A is an Audi 5, roughly 3,900 lbs. Car B is a Lexus NX, roughly 4,000 lbs. Car B had recently stopped and was traveling through the intersection at 15 mph. Car A's speed unknown but posted speed is 35 mph. Is it likely that Car A was traveling 35 mph?

No where near enough info to make an educated guess.

Here's a video of an SUV rolling at, like, 5mph.

Obvs not the same sitch, but it makes the point that "average" simply doesn't apply.

The forum rules do not allow questions of this sort. They require serious analysis by a competent crash analysis professional working with a complete report of all of the conditions involved in the collision, and that's not something that an anonymous internet forum can do.

FAQ: Average speed needed to flip a vehicle

What is the definition of "average speed needed to flip a vehicle"?

The average speed needed to flip a vehicle is the minimum speed required for a vehicle to overturn or roll over. This speed is affected by various factors such as the weight and size of the vehicle, the type of terrain, and the driver's actions.

How is the average speed needed to flip a vehicle calculated?

The average speed needed to flip a vehicle is calculated using a formula that takes into account the vehicle's weight, center of gravity, and other physical characteristics. This calculation is often done through computer simulations or physical experiments.

What are the factors that affect the average speed needed to flip a vehicle?

The average speed needed to flip a vehicle is affected by various factors such as the weight and size of the vehicle, the type of terrain, the vehicle's center of gravity, and the driver's actions. Other factors such as weather conditions and road conditions can also play a role.

Why is it important to know the average speed needed to flip a vehicle?

Knowing the average speed needed to flip a vehicle is important for vehicle manufacturers and safety organizations to design and test vehicles that can withstand certain speeds without rolling over. It is also important for drivers to be aware of this speed to prevent accidents and ensure their own safety.

Can the average speed needed to flip a vehicle be increased or decreased?

Yes, the average speed needed to flip a vehicle can be increased or decreased by altering various factors such as the vehicle's weight, center of gravity, and the type of terrain it is being driven on. For example, a heavier vehicle will require a higher speed to flip compared to a lighter vehicle. Additionally, driving on a flat, smooth road will require a higher speed to flip compared to driving on a curved, uneven road.
