Can Electrons' Energy Levels Change in eV Through Various Means?

In summary, the energy levels of electrons can change in eV as atoms form molecules through covalent bonding. Heating a material can also cause changes in the electrons' eV levels, as well as visible light hitting the electrons. This can result in the absorption or emission of photons, leading to photo-ionisation or changes in the electrons' shell levels.

How can a electrons energy levels increase, and decrease in eV
As atoms come together to form molecules the energy levels of electrons change in eV, but are there other ways a electrons eV can change.
Can heating a material change the electrons eV level, when visible light hits the electrons, could the eV requirements change, so that it may take more energy from light to move the electron to a higher shell level.
I am grateful for your help, anything help, even a few words :D

The electrons on the outermost energy level of the atom are called valence electrons. The valence electrons are involved in bonding one atom to another.

The attraction of each atom’s nucleus for the valence electrons of the other atom pulls the atoms together. As the attractions bring the atoms together, electrons from each atom are attracted to the nucleus of both atoms, which “share” the electrons.

The sharing of electrons between atoms is called a covalent bond, which holds the atoms together as a molecule.Atoms will covalently bond until their outer energy level is full.

yes the atom can loose the outermost electrons and get ionized.
atoms can have net positive charge. like H+ or OH- called ions when water molecules break up.
if you heat/burn sodium chloride form a vapour then you can get sodium light emitted , that is due to electronic transitions.

light as as particle of radiant energy photons can get absorbed or emitted by an atom -can get to photo-ionisation. or emission/absorption of photons.

FAQ: Can Electrons' Energy Levels Change in eV Through Various Means?

1. How do atoms come together?

Atoms come together through a process called chemical bonding, where their outermost electrons interact with each other to form new chemical compounds.

2. How do electrons' energy levels increase?

Electrons' energy levels can increase when they absorb energy from an external source, such as heat or light. This causes the electrons to jump to a higher energy level, which is known as an excited state.

3. How do atoms' energy levels decrease?

Atoms' energy levels can decrease when they release energy in the form of light or heat. This causes the electrons to return to their original energy level, also known as the ground state.

4. Can an electron's energy level change without external influence?

Yes, an electron's energy level can change without external influence through a process called spontaneous emission. In this process, an excited electron can release energy and return to its ground state without the need for external energy.

5. How does the distance between atoms affect their energy levels?

The distance between atoms can affect their energy levels as it determines the strength of the bond between them. The closer the atoms are, the stronger the bond, and the higher the energy required to break the bond and change the electrons' energy levels.
