In summary, the conversation discusses concerns about the moderation process in forums and if there is a way to challenge a moderator's decision or remove their status based on conduct. The owner of the forum assigns and unassigns moderators and democracy is not effective in science. It is possible for a moderator to be demoted based on their conduct.

Personally I am not happy the way threads are being moderated in these forums. Couple of questions
1. How do I challenge a moderator's decision (given he/she/other is not even ready to reason)
2. Are moderator's posts. permanent? Can they be robbed of their status based on their conduct?

Democracy doesn't work in a forum.

You can report anything related to it, reports are visible to all moderators. While we don't discuss individual cases publicly I can tell you that there were already multiple moderators involved in the decision that lead to your thread here.

Moderators are assigned - and unassigned - by @Greg Bernhardt, the owner of the forum.

Specifically, you can report a message that you received in a "Conversation" from a moderator, or from anyone else, using the "Report" link at the bottom left corner of the message, the same way that you can report forum posts.

So it is working!
I wouldn't delve into the history leading to Ceaser assassination and all that just because he refused to give up power as per social standards (and underestimating them), I don't think asserting that democracy won't work in science is constructive (again look history of Aristotle and sorts).

Thanks jtbell, I shall do just that!

It's just stating a fact. Empirical sciences are not democratic - Nature and experiment has the final word.

Yes. Demotion can and has happened. (i.e. statuses are not permanently entrenched).
