Colors inside formulas imported from MathType

In summary, the person is looking for a way to include colors in formulas using the software MathType. They used to be able to easily paste equations on PhysicsForums, but are now having issues. They have discovered that the "Equation for application or website" option in the Copy preferences of MathType works best for pasting on PhysicsForums. However, the copied code does not include colors, so they suggest manually adding them in with code. They also mention that the preview functionality on the forum is not working properly and needs to be fixed.

TL;DR Summary
How to include colors in numbers or letters of equations, esp. when pasted from MathType
I would like to include colors in letters or numbers inside formulas just like I did here with text.
By the way, I use the software MathType to build my formulas and used to be able to paste the equations easily on PhysicsForums, but can't do it lately. Do you know by chance the Copy-and-Paste option that I should choose at MathType so that the equation is readable here?

I think I could answer myself.

With MathType (6.9 in my case), the Copy preference is last option "Equation for application or website" and choose Physics Forum in the list.

The copied code unfortunately misses the colors but you can edit it to reinclude them with code, for example, \color{red}{thenumberorletter}, like here:

[tex]\begin{array}{l}
\color{red}{e_x} = (\color{blue}{e_x},0) = (1,0)\\
\color{red}{e_t} = (v\color{blue}{e_x},{e_t}) = (v,1)
\end{array}[/tex]

The thing is that, as noted in some threads, the preview functionality works erratically. Apparently you need to reload the page... Bug to be fixed, isn't it?

FAQ: Colors inside formulas imported from MathType

1. How do I import colored formulas from MathType into my document?

To import colored formulas from MathType, you can usually copy the formula directly from MathType and paste it into your document. Ensure that the application you are pasting into supports colored text. Some formats like LaTeX might require additional packages to handle color.

2. Why do the colors disappear when I paste my MathType formula into a Word document?

This issue can occur if the paste options are not set to retain the original formatting. When pasting, use the 'Keep Source Formatting' option in Word to ensure that colors are preserved. Additionally, ensure that your version of Word supports colored equations.

3. Can I export colored formulas from MathType to LaTeX?

Yes, you can export colored formulas from MathType to LaTeX. MathType includes support for LaTeX, and you can use the 'Export to LaTeX' feature. Make sure to include the necessary LaTeX packages such as 'xcolor' to handle colors in your LaTeX document.

4. How do I ensure that the colors in my MathType formula are accessible?

To ensure color accessibility, use high-contrast color combinations and consider individuals with color vision deficiencies. Tools like color contrast checkers can help you determine if your chosen colors are accessible. Additionally, providing text descriptions or alternative formats can improve accessibility.

5. What should I do if the colors in my MathType formula look different when imported?

If the colors look different, it might be due to the color profile settings of the application you are using. Check the color settings in both MathType and the target application to ensure they match. Additionally, verify that the document's color mode (RGB or CMYK) is appropriate for your needs.
