In summary, the conversation is about the Dark Side of the Moon artwork being used as an avatar. The person asking the question wants to know if anyone else is already using it and mentions that @micromass has used it in the past. However, they cannot find it on his profile. It is confirmed that @micromass is not currently using it and the person is given permission to use it. The conversation then shifts to a discussion about Pink Floyd.

Is there an admin or other established member with the Dark Side of the Moon artwork as their avatar? For some reason I remember seeing it, but can't find the user.

I don't want to be using someone else's avatar, but DSotM is more or less my life, so if nobody else is using it, I will. If it's taken, I'll probably find some trippy version or something. Thanks!

That was my first thought, but I didn't see it on his profile. Does he no longer use it?

FAQ: Dark Side of the Moon Avatar: Is it Available for Use?

What is the "Dark Side of the Moon Avatar"?

The "Dark Side of the Moon Avatar" is a hypothetical concept in which one side of the moon constantly faces away from the Earth due to its synchronous rotation. This side is often referred to as the "dark side" because it is not visible from Earth.

Is the "Dark Side of the Moon Avatar" a real phenomenon?

No, the "Dark Side of the Moon Avatar" is not a real phenomenon. The term "dark side" is a misnomer, as the side of the moon facing away from Earth still receives sunlight and experiences day and night cycles like the side facing Earth.

What causes the "Dark Side of the Moon Avatar" effect?

The "Dark Side of the Moon Avatar" effect is caused by the moon's synchronous rotation, meaning it takes the same amount of time to rotate on its axis as it does to orbit around the Earth. This results in one side of the moon always facing Earth, while the other side faces away.

Why can't we see the "Dark Side of the Moon Avatar" from Earth?

We cannot see the "Dark Side of the Moon Avatar" from Earth because the moon's synchronous rotation causes the same side to always face Earth. This means that the "dark side" is constantly facing away from our vantage point on Earth.

How was the "Dark Side of the Moon Avatar" discovered?

The concept of the "Dark Side of the Moon Avatar" has been known since ancient times, but it was not until the Soviet spacecraft Luna 3 flew past the moon in 1959 and captured images of its far side that we were able to confirm its existence. Since then, numerous spacecraft have orbited the moon and provided us with detailed images and data of the "dark side."
