Hello all,
My son and I have been tinkering with (very low energy) particle experiments and observing them in a cloud chamber we built. Unfortunately these have a very limited amount of data that can be gathered from them. Now I know that there is no practical way of making the AWESOME detectors used at professional accelerators, i.e. LHC, etc. (though I wish I could ) but is it even feasible to make a bubble chamber at home? I have scoured the web and can't find any useful info. If this would actually be an attainable goal (legal, safe, within a budget of a few hundred dollars, etc.) can anyone provide a link that would get me started on exactly HOW to build something like this, just on a small scale? My ultimate goal would be to create and detect positrons or other anti-matter, but I have learned that the energies needed to do that would create dangerous levels of radiation and probable get me in a lot of trouble with the Feds. Don't want to push our little experiments THAT far!
Note: this is just a little project we are doing in our spare bedroom.
