Engineering Project Homework: Format & Techniques

In summary, when working on a project involving redesigning a failed design, it is important to follow a structured format for the project report. This can include an introduction, research on current technology and design, description of the good and bad aspects, specification drawing, sketch designs, and finally, drawing up designs on solidworks while considering the impact on other parts. It is also important to maintain a clear and coherent narrative throughout the report.

Homework Statement

I am doing a Project that involves taking a failed design .and coming up with new designs
the designs then have to be drawn up on solidworks. I am a mature student who has been out of school for a while, and I am not too familiar with projects. I am going ok, but the lecturers do not want to give to much away.

As I am sure many of you guys have done a lot of projects before. Is there a format I should be using. Like Introduction first. basically what areas do i need to cover. any input is greatly appreciated

This is the basics of the projects
Research technology used in current design and elsewhere
Describe the good & bad
Draw up specification

Sketch Designs
Draw up Designs on solidworks and explain techniques used

take into account effect on other parts from the new design

A good project report reads compellingly like a good story, with a beginning, middle and (hopefully, happy) end. You need to build the beads to thread onto the string and then have connecting pieces, such as 'what I decided to do next, and why'. I think you have made a good start. Keep it simple and keep going.

I understand the importance of having a clear and organized format for any project. In the case of engineering projects, it is essential to follow a specific format to ensure that all necessary information is included and presented in a logical manner. This will also help you to effectively communicate your ideas and solutions to others, such as your lecturers or team members.

The following is a suggested format that you can use for your engineering project homework:

1. Introduction: This section should provide an overview of your project, including the problem you are trying to solve and the objectives of your project.

2. Background/Research: In this section, you should provide a review of the current design and any relevant technologies that are being used. Additionally, you can also research alternative designs or techniques that have been used in similar projects.

3. Analysis: This section should include a detailed analysis of the current design, highlighting its strengths and weaknesses. You can also include any relevant data or calculations in this section.

4. Proposed Solutions: Here, you can present your new designs and explain the techniques you used to come up with them. It is important to provide a clear rationale for your design choices and how they address the weaknesses of the current design.

5. Implementation: This section should outline the steps you took to create your designs on solidworks. You can also include any challenges you faced and how you overcame them.

6. Impact on Other Parts: As you mentioned, it is crucial to consider the effect of your new design on other parts of the project. In this section, you can discuss any potential changes or modifications that may be required to accommodate your new design.

7. Conclusion: This section should summarize your project and highlight the key findings and solutions. You can also discuss any future recommendations or improvements that could be made.

Overall, it is important to make sure that your project is well-organized, clearly presented, and supported by evidence and data. I recommend discussing this format with your lecturers to ensure that it meets their expectations. Additionally, do not hesitate to reach out for help if you have any questions or need further guidance. Good luck with your project!
