How did you find PF?
emailed physicist Sean Carroll a question, while listening to a podcast he was on. He recommends this forum.
interested in new ideas of parallel universes, cosmology, related math

Welcome to PF!

Wow, didn't know Prof Carroll knew we existed.

so, here's the question. He did go into it later in the podcast, he thinks the split produces a copy including our consciousness. We are just not who we were before the split. listening to Ezra Klein podcast. Question. Suppose this is the truth. Suppose you are at a quantum choice, to get coronavirus, or not. Suppose one quantum choice creates a universe in which you get very sick. In another universe, you don't get infected. Which universe gets your consciousness? Or does your consciousness split? Why aren't we aware of this split? Why do I sit here thinking I am safe and well, while in a universe a bubble away, I am dying?

but my issue is, I only know one of these outcomes. What causes or determines which outcome I sense? Ie, what universe the thread of my current consciousness goes to. (I think this is a flaw in the theory)

First, off please take some time to read our guidelines as we are a highly moderated site and there are some topics we don't discuss. Your questions are venturing close to one now.

The second one is that this is an introduction thread where a new member can introduce themselves. We don't like to clutter intro threads with questions instead it is better to find a forum on this site where your question seems appropriate and to start a thread on it.

For your current questions, I think the General Discussion forum would be the best place to start.

too much trouble to find proper forum and move the question. I am not a physics student, just interested in things like string theory, multi worlds, ideas of Brian Greene, Sean Carroll and Roger Penrose, all renouned and respected physicists. Probably this is not the right forum for what I am interested in.

The General Discussion forum is on our site. I'm not trying to send you away. Here's our home page, scroll down to the Lounge area and you will see a link for General Discussion forum.

Its a kind of catch-all forum for questions that aren't quite mainstream science-based. Combining consciousness with physics is one such topic that goes way beyond what physics can do in practice and in theory. We also have photo contests and other things going on.
