Greetings - I'm a long-retired nerd, who still attempts to follow developments in various branches of the sciences - partly to hold ground in cocktail-party conversations, but mainly for pure enjoyment and as a source of analogies for complex problem-solving in diverse areas. Roger Zelazny said "If the liberal arts do nothing else, they provide engaging metaphors for the thinking they displace." I can't agree with that perspective, but do find the reverse true: even (or especially) for people who know little of science - but who can think clearly - the sciences can provide potent heuristic metaphors to non-technical fields. (Of course, to the less-clear, scientific language can be perverted in the silliest possible ways...)
