Eyebrow Piercing: How Bad Does it Hurt & for How Long?

In summary: The whole idea of facial piercings is that people who get them are different or unique and that's why they want them. I think that's pretty shallow.

I was thinking about getting the brow pierced once I am in school and out of my house. How badly does it hurt and for how long?

Why would you want to make a hole in your eyebrow? Its not going to make you look cool.

I don't see how you can make the judgement when you haven't even seen me. I have just always wanted to get one..

If I saw you with one, Id probably think your crying for attention, because normal people don't walk around with rings on their eyebrows. Its like those guys that wear spacers in their ear...why. Its stupid. Who wants their ear lobes stretched out like rubber bands? This ant no tribe in africa.

You're already cool, you don't need holes in your face to prove it.

My daughter just had her eyebrow pierced. Seems that it was not real painful.

Cyrus, If this is not your thing why waste your time and ours by posting in this thread?

I've wanted my eyebrow done for a while. From experience I know that some piercings hurt like the dickens but others you barely even feel. It varies per person as well. As with any piercing make sure you clean it and take care of it really well, or it can get infected or very sore. Usually the pain you get when its pierced is nothing compared to the tenderness after...

I have heard it is not to bad at that instant you get it pierced, which I am not too concerned about. But after a while I heard it can, just don't want it to be a hassle when I'm studin and all.

Generally ibuprofin helps a lot, and ice for the swelling. Have you had any prior piercings? Usually the first two weeks are the worst. If you can make it through that and keep it cleaned and let it heal up right, you'll be fine. Most people who get piercings just cause they look cool without ever looking into it tend not to take good enough care.

Belly button piercings for instance, are the most often infected (and in my opinion, most disgusting) piercings. But think of the population who tends to get belly button rings... its probably the only piercing those girls ever get, and they just think its a new toy or whatever.

Mostly, just be responsible, and really commit. If you really want it and take care of it, its worth it.

Just don't plan on wearing it to a job interview anywhere other than Starbucks.

Now that Tower Video has gone out of business, there aren't that many employers with a minimum piercing and tatoo requirement.

Regarding piercing, I've never understood it, then again, I don't really get the concept of jewelry either. A wedding ring is my limit (and that's mostly for my wife's benefit, it's not important to me). Who starts these traditions anyway? Apparently it was the DeBeers that started the concept of diamond rings being the standard gift for when a couple get's engaged. I'm not sure who started the idea behind wearing rings as a sign of marriage. It's all a corporate plot.

Oh those corporations.

We know from Juvenal (Satire VI.) that the Romans used such rings; we know that the Greeks used them as far back as we can trace; they are found in Egyptian tombs; they appear to have been a part of the earliest civilisations we can trace.

My daughter had the eyebrow thing done along with a two pairs of holes in her lips so she can wire them shut. Not shut enough for me. She has let one of the pairs in her mouth grow back together. She has been looking for work without success and still refuses to lose the hardware. I expect her attitude is hurting her as much as the jewelry.

As far as I remember the density of pain receptors in the face is fairly low so I doubt it will be one of the more painful piercings. I'm not too sure about that though so a biology person would have to confirm it.

I think if you're overly worried about the pain then you should reassess your decision to get one. People who get piercings or tattoos never worry about the pain because they are sure it is what they want. Or if they do worry they are prepared to get it done anyway.

How about ear piercings? The only difference being that your earlobes probably collect less dirt than (their) belly buttons do

I don't like facial piercings. My sister has an eyebrow piercing, the same as her boyfriend, if she likes the look of it then so be it. I don't think it will hurt a lot, it will be a little sore for the first two weeks. Just ask the person setting the piercing for advice about keeping it clean and handling the piercing.

Every time I see someone with an eyebrow piercing I think they've got a bug or something nasty caught on their brow. I think they are the least attractive of all the facial piercings.

A friend of my youngest daughter has one and she has to remove it when she goes to work. I keep wanting to swat the thing off her face, then I remember it's a piercing.

I wanted to get one too!

But my issue was, would it be difficult to get a job? Can you tell I have one if I take it out?

Hey. On some people an eyebrow piercing can look nasty cool. Evanescence's album Fallen I can remember.

It's only a cry for attention in people that it would be a cry for attention. Some people just think it looks cool.

Yeah, that's what it is.

There might be more initial bleeding from a brow than other places simply because of the blood vessel distribution in the face, but it won't last for long.
As for the pain, I wouldn't expect much... but everyone has his/her own tolerance. My 2 piercings were in... shall we say, a somewhat more sensitive area ... and I found that the discomfort came from clamping the area rather than the needle itself. For the healing period, it was more of a slightly burning itch. It was irritating, but not painful.

Oh yeah you can definitely tell. I think you can anyway.

I don't think an eyebrow piercing would be the most painful but I doubt it still feels to good. I cannot imagine getting your tongue pierced...I find that icky. I'm not much into piercings though myself beyond the usual ear piercings. If you want it go for it, it is your decision. Just make sure you get it because you really really really want it.

Good advice, Scorpa. At least, though, a piercing is easier to eliminate than a tattoo.

Speaking of piercings, this friend of mine came into the cafe I frequent in this hilarious condition:

She was in a lot of pain. A few days later I saw her again and there was no needle or jewelry: she had given up on it.

Considering how often I blow my nose (allergies) I can't even imagine this.

I think she regretted it almost instantly afterward. The continuing pain seems to have surprised her.

Once I was taking my sister to have her hear pierced. On the way I met a friend of mine, and she told me to get my eyebrow pierced. I told that no way, I just would not like such a thing on my body. Something like Cyrus first reaction. She joked about my close-mindeness, told me that if I do not like it I could take it off, it actually heals very fast. In the end, I decided to do it for fun, and also a little bit of provocation.

When my mother saw it she insulted me, thinking it is such a ridiculous way to draw attention to oneself. I did not take it off right away, because I knew it would heal close, and wanted to see more people reaction. But after a few days, I realized that most people either just don't care, or tell me they like it, or if they don't they don't say it. And worse of all, I started to actually like it. I never took it off. I just don't even notice it now. I get one compliment about it every month or so. I know I will take it off some day, but I see no reason to do it now.

It does not hurt at all. At least, on the level of what I felt as physical pain in my life, it is close to nothing, maybe I am just lucky with piercing.

BTW, piercing seems to me very innocent compared to tatoo. In VA, I see few people pierced, but many tatooed.

Tongue is a different issue. Never do it, never. There are many other adults toys to play with anyway

Seriously, the mouth is a very important part of the body. If you have it infected, remember how close your bone system is to it (right next to your teeth). One should not jeopardize the mouth health in any manner.

Yeah, I was told by a girl with a tongue piercing that dentists hate tongue piercings because the stud on the bottom causes gum loss over time from rubbing on the gums. She had her metal one replaced with a plastic one to obviate this, but most don't.

I've never seen an eyebrow thing in any of your pictures, was this recent?

That is because you don't pay much attention to my pictures :-p

It is actually not recent at all, more than 3 years old, but it is discrete, and you can only see it on a fairly good resolution picture.

I hate the picture I posted there however...

Oh, now that's not bad. I usually see people with these huge barbells on their eyebrows that look hideous.

Something more like this guy.

That's a great picture, and the piercing is rather inconspicuous, although in person it's probably more noticeable.

In 20 years all the kids will look like that and the humanino generation will be up in arms about excessive peircings.

FAQ: Eyebrow Piercing: How Bad Does it Hurt & for How Long?

How bad does an eyebrow piercing hurt?

The pain level of an eyebrow piercing can vary from person to person. Some may experience minimal discomfort, while others may feel more intense pain. However, most people describe the pain as a quick, sharp pinch.

How long does the pain last?

The pain from an eyebrow piercing typically lasts for a few seconds during the actual piercing process. After that, there may be some soreness or tenderness in the area for a few days to a week. The pain should gradually decrease during this time and can be managed with over-the-counter pain medication.

How can I reduce the pain during and after the piercing?

To reduce the pain during the piercing, your piercer may use a numbing cream or ice to numb the area beforehand. After the piercing, you can apply a cold compress or take pain medication as directed. It's also important to follow proper aftercare instructions to help with healing and reduce any discomfort.

Are there any risks or complications with eyebrow piercings?

As with any piercing, there are some risks and potential complications with an eyebrow piercing. These can include infection, excessive bleeding, scarring, and rejection of the piercing. It's important to go to a reputable piercer and follow proper aftercare to minimize these risks.

How long does it take for an eyebrow piercing to heal completely?

The healing time for an eyebrow piercing can vary, but on average, it takes 6-8 weeks for the initial healing process. However, it can take up to 6 months for the piercing to fully heal and for the jewelry to be changed. It's important to be patient and follow proper aftercare to ensure proper healing.
