Hello :)

Does anyone know where I can get any amount of some sort of electret material? All I find online are electret microphones...

Also, if possible, some details about said material.

Thank you!

You are right; there are NO suppliers for electret materials on the web! This is very strange; I guess they are not interested in dealing with hobbyists, and will only deal with other manufacturers.

Hi i am new to this forum. just want to find whether an electret exactly beahaves like a electric counterpart of a magnet. I mean if you hold it to a electroscope would the leaves repel each other as long as its in contact with the electret or is it just for a moment the electroscope responses. thanks in advance.

FAQ: Find Electret Material: Where & Details

What is an electret material?

An electret material is a type of dielectric material that has a semi-permanent electric charge. This means that it can hold a charge for a long period of time without requiring an external power source.

Where can I find electret material?

Electret material can be found in a variety of places, such as electronic stores, specialized suppliers, and online retailers. It is also commonly used in everyday objects such as microphones, speakers, and air filters.

What are the properties of electret material?

Electret material has several unique properties that make it useful in various applications. These include high dielectric strength, low electrical conductivity, and the ability to maintain a charge for a long time.

How is electret material made?

Electret material is typically made by exposing a non-conductive material to a high-voltage electric field. This causes the material to become polarized, resulting in a semi-permanent electric charge. Common materials used for electrets include Teflon, polyethylene, and polystyrene.

What are some common uses of electret material?

Electret material has a wide range of applications in various industries. It is commonly used in microphones and speakers for its ability to convert sound waves into electrical signals. It is also used in air filters to attract and trap particles, as well as in electrostatic generators and sensors.
