A legend is an understatement. A great loss would also be an understatement. I hope he still keeps posting.

Thanks

Have a well earned break then bob in now and again. Have a browse. You will get sucked into a maths thread no doubt!

Is this some kinda forced retirement? 🤔
I'm new around here and so I don't completely understand how this retirement scheme works? Are some privileges taken away, etc. etc.?

Completely voluntary and honorable. Mentors are volunteers who spend hours and hours working to maintain a healthy community status.

A warm and grateful farewell to @fresh_42. Have a nice retirement. Some of us (I'm in) will certainly hope for your intending to return. Thank you for your ever generous assistance.

Thanks @fresh_42. I do hope you stick around, as it suits you, of course. You are big part of what makes this site worthwhile.

I don't think PF has rules about DIY home improvement. But I'm not sure why you think @fresh_42 would want that.

After hearing the unfortunate news, I felt that the least I can do is to express my deep gratitude to the respected retired mentor for his passion for helping others, his informative replies, and the numerous pieces of advice he has generously shared. Moreover, reading some of his threads has been a humbling experience, highlighting the vast difference between his profound knowledge and those of us who are just beginning our academic careers. I am truly grateful for his selfless contributions and the altruistic work he has been doing.

By the way, I feel I need to add, that I am also grateful to his respectful manner of reply, which fortunately allowed me to talk with him freely without wearing any bullet-proof outfit, nor going to the of "flight-or-flight" mode while looking for an emergency exit.

I have just heard the news of @fresh_42 's mentor retirement now, as I've been off the grid working on my own projects (including studying French).

I want to wish @fresh_42 all the best on your future plans. Even though you may retire from active mentoring here on PF, I hope he can still visit from time to time!

F42 has been spotted. That's good.
Part of the fabric of pf for me and many others.
Hopefully he will drop in and do his stuff now and again.

I'm not good in saying big words ..., but @fresh_42 you certainly have my appreciation and respect in many ways, as any mentor deserves that in different ways etc., as well as for your very personal individualized appearence, contributions & traces left [here in PF] ... . Also, I'm glad you'll still be around ...
