In summary, South Carolina recently passed a policy requiring coroners to have at least a high school diploma, highlighting a major gap in our legal system. The lack of federal regulation in death investigation, which can greatly impact court cases, is also a concerning issue. Many Frontline programs, including the one mentioned about post-mortem investigations, can be watched online or purchased.

Pretty shocking. Who knew there was such a gaping hole in our legal system that can have immense consequences. South Caroline *just* enacted policy that makes it a requirement for someone to have at least a high school diploma if they want to be a coroner.

How is death investigation not federally regulated if it can be used to determine the outcomes of court cases? It's quite mind blowing.

That was quite shocking. I saw your post and thought I had missed it, but it came on two hours later locally.

For those who aren't aware, most of the Frontline programs are available to watch online.

I have even purchased a couple of videos about the financial crash from PBS.

I am not directly involved in the legal system, but I am aware of the important role that coroners play in investigating and determining the cause of death. It is concerning to hear that there have been issues with the qualifications and standards for coroners, as this can have significant consequences for the families and communities affected by their decisions.

It is encouraging to hear that South Carolina has recently enacted a policy to require a high school diploma for coroners, as this is a basic level of education that can help ensure a certain level of competency in this role. However, I believe that further measures should be taken to improve the qualifications and training for coroners, such as requiring a degree in a relevant field or specific training in forensic science.

It is important for the legal system to have confidence in the abilities and qualifications of coroners, as their findings and decisions can have a significant impact on the outcome of legal cases and the justice system as a whole. I hope that this issue continues to be addressed and improved upon to ensure the integrity of the coroner's role in our legal system.
