It's funny how something can seem a certain way one moment, and then you learn something new and that thing will never seem the same. This just happened to me wrt to LCD screens. I thought that I knew how they worked more or less, but when someone asked what makes them bright, I realized that I didn't know how they work at all. Wow, fluorescent lights! Who knew? I guess I never really thought about it, but now when I look at my screen it is painfully obvious; so much so that it even bothers me a little.

My dad makes them for a living (both hardware and software), and there are more types of backlights than just that...

Are you talking about a laptop/desktop monitor?

I can definitely relate to this experience. It's amazing how our understanding of something can completely change with just a bit of new information. In the case of LCD screens, it's understandable that you may have had a general idea of how they work, but didn't fully grasp the details until someone asked a specific question. This highlights the importance of constantly seeking new knowledge and questioning our assumptions. In the case of LCD screens, the use of fluorescent lights to create brightness is a fascinating concept that may have gone unnoticed before. It just goes to show that there is always more to learn, even about seemingly simple things.
