I will have 1 week to study for general GRE. I hear it has very little impact on admission. Is this true? Is that enough?
The General GRE for top schools consists of three sections: Analytical Writing, Verbal Reasoning, and Quantitative Reasoning. The test is approximately 3 hours and 45 minutes long and is administered on a computer.
The General GRE is scored on a scale of 130-170 for the Verbal and Quantitative sections, and 0-6 for the Analytical Writing section. Each section is scored separately, and the scores are then converted into a percentile ranking to compare with other test takers.
While many top schools do require the General GRE, there are some that do not. It is important to check with each individual school to see if the test is required for admission.
Preparation for the General GRE can include studying on your own using resources such as practice tests and study guides, or taking a prep course. It is recommended to start preparing at least 3 months before the test date.
The weight of the General GRE in the admissions process varies for each school. Some schools place a strong emphasis on the scores, while others consider them in conjunction with other application materials. It is best to research the specific schools you are interested in to understand their admissions criteria.
