Get FEMM program to output magnetic field and direction

In summary: Your Name]In summary, the FEMM program does not have an option to output magnetic field information in a data file. However, there are alternative methods such as using third-party software or manually extracting the data from the output window. Additionally, reaching out to the developers for future updates may also be a potential solution.

Hi all,

Does anyone know how to get the program: FEMM (Finite Element Method Magnetics) to output the magnetic field strength and direction in a data file?

The program tells me the magnetic field in an output window anywhere i click my mouse on. However, I would like it to output the magnetic field information at every point in space in a data file (eg a .txt file). There should be information containing the coordinates and the magnetic field strength and direction. There doesn't seem to be such an output option in the program :(

Thanks for your help.

Cheers,
Junxian

Dear Junxian,

Thank you for reaching out regarding the FEMM program and its output capabilities. As a scientist with experience in magnetic field research, I can provide some guidance on how to obtain the magnetic field information you are looking for.

Firstly, I would recommend checking the program's user manual or online documentation for any specific instructions on how to output data. If there is no such option available in the program, there are a few alternative methods you could try.

One option is to use a third-party software or plugin that can extract data from the FEMM output window and save it in a data file. Some possible options include DataThief, DataExtractor, or PyFEMM. These tools allow you to select the data points you want to extract and save them in a desired format, such as a .txt file.

Another option is to manually extract the data from the output window and save it in a spreadsheet or text file. This may be a bit more time-consuming, but it can still be a viable option if you only need a small amount of data.

Lastly, if the above options do not work for you, you could try reaching out to the developers of FEMM and inquire about adding an output option for magnetic field data in future updates. They may be able to provide some insights or suggestions on how to obtain the data you need.

I hope this helps and good luck with your research.
