Healpix Introduction. Any examples available?

In summary, there are many helpful resources for getting started with using HEALpix, including tutorials, sample code, and user resources on the official HEALpix website, the NASA HEALpix page, a tutorial from the University of Illinois, the IDL Astronomy User's Library, and the community on Stack Overflow. These resources can provide guidance on using HEALpix with IDL as well as other languages and can help with specific tasks such as creating skymaps from data.

Hi

I have a project that involves the use of Healpix. I am familiar with IDL, so I would like to use HEALpix through IDL routines. My problem is that I cannot find a starting point. I have data from both Galex and IRAS. I got the IRAS data from http://lambda.gsfc.nasa.gov (Lambda data project), where they have 1-d fits files that contains all the info needed to make an IR skymap.

Any idea on where I can find examples like this? And also examples on coadding images to create skymaps?

Thanx a lot in advance

.Here are some helpful resources to get you started with HEALpix:1. The official HEALpix website (http://healpix.sourceforge.net/) has lots of useful information, including tutorials, sample code and user resources. 2. The NASA Goddard Space Flight Center's HEALpix page (https://healpix.gsfc.nasa.gov/) contains lots of examples and tutorials on using HEALpix with IDL as well as a number of other languages.3. The Astronomy Department at the University of Illinois has a great tutorial (http://astro.illinois.edu/workshop/r-healpix/intro.html) on how to use HEALpix with the R language. 4. The IDL Astronomy User's Library (http://idlastro.gsfc.nasa.gov/contents.html) is a great resource for finding sample code and examples for working with HEALpix in IDL. 5. Lastly, Stack Overflow (https://stackoverflow.com/questions/tagged/healpix) is a great place to ask questions about HEALpix and get answers from experts. I hope this helps!

Related to Healpix Introduction. Any examples available?

1. What is Healpix?

Healpix is a software package developed for the analysis of data on the sphere, commonly used in astronomy and cosmology.

2. What does Healpix do?

Healpix provides tools for pixelization, visualization, and analysis of data on the sphere. It is particularly useful for handling data from all-sky surveys.

3. How is Healpix different from other software packages?

Healpix uses a unique pixelization scheme that divides the sphere into equal-area pixels, making it ideal for analyzing data that covers the entire sky. It also provides a variety of tools for analyzing and manipulating spherical data.

4. Are there any examples of Healpix being used in research?

Yes, Healpix has been used in a wide range of research projects, including cosmology, astrophysics, and geophysics. Examples can be found on the official Healpix website.

5. Is Healpix open-source?

Yes, Healpix is an open-source software package, meaning it is freely available for anyone to use and modify. It is maintained by an active community of developers and users.
