Hello, I am studying the fungal growths found in Chernobyl

In summary, I am studying the fungal growths found in Chernobyl. These growths are thought to be a result of the radioactive environment created by the 1986 nuclear disaster. Researchers have found that certain types of fungi have been able to adapt and thrive in this highly contaminated area, potentially playing a key role in the decomposition of radioactive waste. The study of these fungal growths can provide valuable insights into the effects of radiation on organisms and the potential for fungal-based bioremediation in contaminated environments.

Hi,
I am a professional in the space industry who has been studying the fungal growths in Chernobyl for some time. i think that the way they manage the radiation levels they experience can lead to new radiation shielding materials, or an improvement on direct light->electricity conversion processes. I am currently self-studying applied nuclear physics as a prep before i start graduate school in 2021, with a focus on nanoscale engineering

I think fungi that grow in highly irradiated environments that would kill any other living creature are pretty cool

Welcome aboard PF, MagneticNeutron,

I'm sure that I'm not the only one here who would be interested to read a post on your area of research, perhaps in the Biology Forum.

:welcome:
