Hello, I am an undergraduate physics student, and I would like some guidance on 'what to do' once I finish my degree. Any suggestions?
I am in my 3rd year of my undergraduate studies, currently finishing my 6th semester and about to start my 7th in physics.marcusl said:What year are you?
For poins:berkeman said:That's a pretty broad question. Which degree? (BS, MS, PhD?) What specialty? What work or research experience do you have so far? What country do you want to work in? Do you want to work in industry or academia?
Have you discussed this with your faculty advisor at your university?
Career options will depend heavily on the specific country that you want to work in. Your profile has your country listed as Bolivia, but for now you plan to do graduate studies (or other additional studies) in a European country and then work in a European country. Is that correct? Do you have any family connections to any specific European country? Can you narrow down the list of potential countries to your top 3? What languages are you fluent, or at least proficient, in?Dani_318 said:For poins:
- Currently, I am studying for my BS in Physics. Do you think it would be useful to pursue an additional degree, such as in Mechatronics or Electronics Engineering?
- For now, I would like to have a clearer plan or perspective for after I finish my degree. I'm interested in possibly pursuing a master’s or PhD, but I'm curious about how the academic world works.
- I'm still working on finding my specialty. Right now, I am developing my skills in areas offered by my program, such as data analysis, programming, experimental physics, theoretical physics, electronics, teaching, and social engagement.
- I haven't decided on a country yet, but Europe would be my main goal.
- I would like to work in academia, although I don’t know much about the industry yet. How different are they?
