AI Thread Summary
A 15-year-old high school student expresses a strong desire to study physics and calculus but feels restricted due to past academic performance, which has prevented them from enrolling in physics classes. A fellow forum member, Adeel Hussain, offers support and suggests that hard work could lead to a transition into a physics stream. He proposes helping the student through instant messaging and mentions the possibility of finding online textbooks. Adeel also recommends hiring a qualified science tutor, emphasizing that many are available at affordable rates, which could provide structured learning and help the student complete a college-level curriculum. He stresses the importance of mastering prerequisite math courses like Algebra 2, Trigonometry, and Precalculus before advancing to Calculus.

Is there no way to transition into a physics stream through hard work?

Calculus and physics, sure. I might be able to help you out if we could get on IM somehow.

Free of charge, since I'm still a student. I'm interested in becoming a math/physics teacher in the future, so I could use the practice; and I have plenty of free time an energy.

Send me a PM here on the forum if you're interested (perhaps with your
IM info, if you have any).

I might be able to find you an online textbook.

Go to craigslist and look for science tutors (college level with MSs or PHDs in your area).
They generally charge you $15/hour for say someone with a PH.D in applied math.

These guys are desperate for work right now (and in the future) and should be pretty easy to find for slave prices. Hire them to teach you twice a week... and force you to complete college level curriculum every semester.
Cheapest, best and easiest way to learn these kinds of things at your age
(talking at most $600-1000/semester doing this)
After that just sit for everything from the BC Calc test to the highest AP Physics/Chem tests and go into your nearest state school placing out of all of the first year crap (English would be nice too... since that test is sooo easy)

What math are you in? Before you get to Calculus, you have to make sure that you have Alg 2, Trig, and Precal under your belt. How comfortable are you with your math?

I'm going to make this one quick since I have little time. Background: Throughout my life I have always done good in Math. I almost always received 90%+, and received easily upwards of 95% when I took normal-level HS Math courses. When I took Grade 9 "De-Streamed" Math (All students must take "De-Streamed" in Canada), I initially had 98% until I got very sick and my mark had dropped to 95%. The Physics teachers and Math teachers talked about me as if I were some sort of genius. Then, an...
Bit Britain-specific but I was wondering, what's the best path to take for A-Levels out of the following (I know Y10 seems a bit early to be thinking about A-levels, but my choice will impact what I do this year/ in y11) I (almost) definitely want to do physics at University - so keep that in mind... The subjects that I'm almost definitely going to take are Maths, Further Maths and Physics, and I'm taking a fast track programme which means that I'll be taking AS computer science at the end...
After a year of thought, I decided to adjust my ratio for applying the US/EU(+UK) schools. I mostly focused on the US schools before, but things are getting complex and I found out that Europe is also a good place to study. I found some institutes that have professors with similar interests. But gaining the information is much harder than US schools (like you have to contact professors in advance etc). For your information, I have B.S. in engineering (low GPA: 3.2/4.0) in Asia - one SCI...
